Conscious showcases his talent as a lyricist delivering a comfortable cadence and memorable hook. Reminiscent to artists such as Post Malone, the emerging NY rapper’s work speaks to a different side of the genre content wise which happens to venture more toward melodic ambiance. While “LIES” seems to take on a more serious subject matter, it is no less entertaining. In exploring the inner-workings of the track, fans will quickly discover that there is more to Conscious’ artistry than simply delivering bars.

NY-based artist Conscious recently dropped a new release titled “LIES”, we caught up with him to get the details on his project. Check out the interview below.
“LIES” is your latest single, what inspired this track?
This is a very deep & personal song to me. I wrote “LIES” in a very dark place and it’s based off a real life experience that I know resonates with many. The song follows a past relationship of mine that was very toxic and full of lies (pun intended lol) & cheating. In the music video the name of the guy she is meeting is literally the name of the guy my ex cheated on. Petty or dedicated to the craft? You tell me.
Tell us the story behind your stage name?
I came up with the name Conscious after much thought. There were a few different ideas in the mix, but when the team started designing the logo it just stood out to me. I knew i wanted my music to have purpose and to invoke feelings and thoughts from situations and experiences that weigh heavy on one’s conscious during the day. Now with the impact the brand has made & with the name tatted on my skin, there is no doubt in my mind I chose the right name.
We heard that you weren’t initially a rap fan in favor of some other genres, what was the turning point that drove you toward now being a rap artist?
I’ve always appreciated rap, my dad & brother always were playing artist like Biggie, Warren G, Nate Dogg, Snoop Dogg, LL Cool J, Fugees, 50 Cent, the list goes on. But it wasn’t until Kayne West dropped 808s & Heartbreak that blended many genres, and the golden age of Kid Cudi, Drake, Lil Wayne, etc. that really pulled me in and it was over with after that. I became engulfed and passionate.
Are there any artists out there that have inspired or influenced your style?
I’m heavily influenced by Drake in all aspects of the game. The way he dominates the music & business side of things and is unstoppable rise is truly inspiring. I’m also inspired by Oliver Francis, as he is independent artist who really built his who buzz and following with quality music to back it up and I find that we have alot of similarities.
Recently, you released a music video for “LIES”, what are some of the challenges you face as an independent artist in putting together a production of this caliber?
I think wearing all the hats and being a one man operation is a gift & a curse. When it comes to productions like this, to make it happen you need to find dependable people who are dedicated to the project and all have the same goal in mind. It’s very tough to find those people who can be passionate like I am. I was very blessed with “LIES” as the crew worked wonderfully and we were able to get the shoot done in one day as were facing time restraints and production limitations.
The end of the video leaves viewers with some questions about what happens in the aftermath, is this story to be continued?
Good question! *SPOILER ALERT* As of right now, there is no plans for a part two. But who knows, that is always subject to change. If enough people want it, we’ll make it happen.
What are your favorite tracks currently in your playlist?
I’ve found myself addicted to a few bodies of work, ‘Arizona In The Summer’ by Role Model, ‘Reloaded’ By 88GLAM and ‘A Tape To Remember’ by Smiley_61st. They are all so different & unique from each other but I believe they are great projects.
You manage multiple aspects of your brand, how do you find time to focus on creating new music?
It’s hard, very hard. Especially when balancing all the other different balls in the air. I write & record all my own music, I direct and edit most of all my photo shoots & videos. I do all my own promotion and branding. I’m apart of every bit in the production. I just have a method to my madness. I won’t stop til I make it. Sleepless nights and restless days is how things get done. What helps me on the music side is that I’m always writing whether it’s in a notepad, or in my phone, or even typed out on the computer. I’M ALWAYS WRITING. Also, having my own studio allows me to record at my pleasure, which is truly a blessing.
What would you say has been your biggest accomplishment as an independent artist so far?
I’ve had many proud moments from making it on the televised news in my hometown, to the release of my first project : Waking Up The Neighbors, to being featured on Soundcloud. To seeing my mailing list grow to the thousands. Every step and little goal hit is just as meaningful to me as what some consider a “big accomplishment”. But for me, the most important accomplishment is when a fan listens to my music and tells me it saved their life or resonates with them on a deeper level. That’s why I do what I do.
If you could collab with any other musicians, singers, songwriters or producers, who would they be?
I would love to work with the likes of Drake, Juice Wrld, Kid Cudi, Kayne West, Oliver Francis, I think we would make some super dope music. Honestly, I’d love to work with anybody who is passionate about making quality, meaningful music.
You hail from Buffalo, NY, where do you hope your music will take you next?
ON TOUR! That is the big goal right now. I’d love to make a tour happen and play my heart out across the world and meet the amazing people who support me. Specifically, I would love to make it to Atlanta or LA for business purposes as that’s where the real connections are made.
In the realm of rap and hip-hop, cultural appropriation is always a hot topic, as an artist with a growing platform, what is your stance?
I guess I don’t have one. I stay out of things like that as much as I can. I think it comes down to one’s intentions and what they intend to do. There is a difference between appropriation & appreciation. Speaking for myself, I respect and appreciate the origins of rap & hip-hop. I’ve studied the greats and the history. I listen and keep up to date with the happenings and when making my art I may draw inspiration but I would never do it in a way to violate.
“Lies” is not your first project, you’ve had some other successful releases on major streaming platforms, what can fans expect from Conscious in the near future?
I have a lot of things in store for the future! I can’t speak on everything right now. But expect tons of new material including new singles, collaborations, music videos and my 4th project, “Path To Redemption’. So be on the look out for all that & much more!

Tracks on the project such as ‘Muddy’ however, are smeared with heavy grime but catchy enough to appeal to the popular audience. Ahki’s tracks could contend effortlessly with the likes of artists such as Drake, Young Thug and Wiz Khalifa just to name a few.
Hip hop fans will enjoy the vivid storytelling that Mateo performs on tracks such as “Money Trees” and “Blue” which are two of the most popular tracks on the album. Mateo delivers an abundance of metaphors. He uses descriptive verbals to set up details scenes seamlessly.

This month we are featuring Iowa City band Shades, a brother and sister collabo whose debut EP ‘Can’t See The Haters’ is currently making waves across the music sphere. We wanted to get some further deets on the band’s project and gain some further insight into their ethos. Check out our interview with Shades members Casey and Mary Mattes below.
Can each of you share with us how you got started in music?
Our dad is a professional guitar player, so we’ve grown up with music as long as we can remember. I’ve played in small bands with friends since high school, and decided to pursue music on my own while studying it in college. Once I noticed my sister’s passion for the same creative arts, I knew we needed to team up to create something amazing.
What inspired you to team up to form a band?
Music is about expression. We’ve both been through so much, and we know that our fans have too. Mary puts her heart and soul into the lyrics of each song we produce, bringing forward problems that people our age are facing daily. We wanted to find an impactful way to address these issues presented throughout life and make our fans feel as though they’re not alone.
Shades has a very eclectic sound, who would you say are some of your musical influences? What types of music is in your playlists right now?
We’re huge fans of Twenty One Pilots, Jon Bellion, AJR, and Halsey. We’ve also heard that our indie pop sound reminds fans of The Chainsmokers, Daya, and James Blake.
What made you decide to come up with the name Shades for your band? What is its significance?
We wear our Shades so we can’t see the haters!
Can you describe what a typical creative session would be to come up with a new song? What goes into the whole experience that we as listeners hear on the other end.
We’ll be creating some BTS videos to demonstrate the answer to this question. But for now, I (Casey) produce instrumentals and hand them over to Mary. She writes lyrics, we record, and I mix/master the music. Our beats and lyrics stem from very personal experiences.
‘Can’t See The Haters’ is your first EP, how did you decide on the song selections for the band’s debut?
We created an array of songs, but chose these because of their importance in creating our image. They’re based around our band name and everything we stand for. And, man. This EP is just the beginning.
Most kids today are just looking for a good beat it seems, especially in the mainstream. How important do you feel lyrical content is in music?
Lyrics are everything. A song without meaningful lyrics is wasted potential.
As an indie band and being in control of all aspects of your art, are there any difficulties or challenges in putting your music out and if so what are they and how do you manage them?
It’s difficult getting your music out there for just about any band without many industry connections. We’re based out of Iowa City, IA, so that’s a tricky work-around as well. Our band manager, Teressa Mattes, is doing a great job distributing our music to our passionate fans around the globe via the internet. Mary and I are perfecting our live show now, as well as recording more dope tracks for future EPs/albums. We’re going to continue putting in the work! It’s all about the grind, after all.
How long did it take you to work on your EP?
Almost 2 months!
Now that the EP is out, how do you feel about its reception?
We love seeing the feedback on social media outlets such as Instagram and Facebook. Our fans are the best!
Can you tell us a little bit about the music scene in Iowa City?
Iowa City has a very tight knit music scene. Most bands who play here are still in college, except for the occasional more prominent artists who plays at Blue Moose. I’ve played as a solo artist at Blue Moose a number of times, and am looking forward to returning with Mary this year.
What are the best and worst things about working with your brother/sister?
We value family most out of anything out there. It’s amazing to be able to collaborate with the people you know and love, and at the same time work together to bring new experiences and ideas to the table when it comes to creating new music. We both have our own taste in music, so sometimes that delays creating new tracks, but it is always for the best. If we both approve a song we work together to produce, we know that fans of multiple genres and sounds will too!
Are there any other acts that the band would want to collaborate with in the future?
We’re down for anything.
The new year is really just starting and you definitely kicked in some doors with your project, what is next for Shades?
Keep an eye out for our next EP drop at the end of March 2018! It’s as gritty and lux as it gets…
Shades is an American indie pop band formed in September 2017. The duo consists of siblings Casey Mattes (producer), and Mary Mattes (singer). Shades is a DIY pop group who writes, produces, and mixes/masters their own material from their home studio in Iowa City, Iowa.
Casey Mattes’ original music has been featured on “Spaced Out Magazine”, “VERSED”, and has won Artist Prolist’s Platinum Spotlight Challenge TWICE within the same year. Mary Mattes has been featured throughout Casey’s original songs over the last 4 years. Mid 2017, the brother and sister decided to combine their talents into the hit duo you see today.
Shades’ music style has been described as “dynamic”, combining elements of electropop, alternative hip hop, and EDM. Their lyrics, written by Mary, are poetry-based and reflect the all-too-real emotional states of many twenty-somethings who struggle to thrive in today’s world filled with hate.
In January of 2018, Shades dropped their first EP, “Can’t See The Haters”, consisting of 6 songs. “You can either let the hate blind you, or you can block it out,” said Casey, referring to their latest release. “This EP both introduces our band name to the world and describes the underlying meaning behind every piece of work we create. We wear our shades so we can’t see the haters, and we encourage you to do the same.” Casey continued, “This EP is just the beginning. We’re so excited to share with you what’s next.”
Their opening track on the EP, “Kill the Darkness”, was written to express the frustration built from the blossoming of an irrational, yet sweet fixation. Mary mentioned that this song represents an expression of consequence; when you let yourself recklessly fall in love with someone you can’t have, knowing damn well you’re diving into some murky morals.
In a nutshell, “Not Really Sorry” is a snarky, taunting song written about rejection. But more so, it’s lyrics represent the celebration of a sheer reluctance to compromise independence for a relationship. “Independence is an empowering trait,” said Mary. “This song for me conveys a realization of self importance and self empowerment… It’s just snarky as heck.”
“Rainbowz” is by far the most unique song on the EP, loved by fans favoring all types of musical genres. “Writing this song was a unique experience. At the time I had just become homeless, so I was bunking in my car for the night. With nothing to occupy my attention, my mind fell down a Wizard of Oz rabbit hole, puzzling over how f***ing weird of a story it is, and all the conspiracy theory potential it has… Naturally, that segued into forcefully rapping about rainbows. But, in all seriousness, this song is an adaptation of the story’s concept- an interpretation reflecting my state of mind at the time.”
The statirecally written, romp of a song “American Dream” describes the current state of both our country and the world we’re forever evolving, for better or for worse. “I’m forever going to utilize social and political f***ery for creative inspiration,” stated Mary. The song lyrics take an independent stance for women and men of all traits, and implores acknowledgment from governmental personas.
“Back & Forth” is an extremely catchy song about being fed up with shady powerplay in all facets of life… We’ll just let the lyrics speak for themselves:
“Back and forth
lamenting the natural course
up and down of a power source
we’re stuck in a game, an oscillation
and I’m borrowed time
i’m reaching a decline
for a twisted rendition
of something more divine”
The title track, “Can’t See The Haters” started out as an instrumental track which Casey composed between midnight and the early morning hours of one single week. Mary was given the song, & told to “run with it”, both vocally and lyrically. Mary explained, “For a while, it was just ‘Sad Song in F’. We wanted something genuine and impactful for this song. It took delving straight into my feels and digging out my most vulnerable self to pull together the exact sound and feeling.” This anthem of a song is a fervent breath of fresh air in the music industry today. “Can’t See The Haters” is quickly becoming an intoxicating, enduring crowd favorite among fans.
Shades’ unique mix of indie pop and alternative hip hop has become a crowd-pleasing genre which the duo has used to gain a massive following in their hometown. It won’t be long before their music is sung by audiences across the nation!
Iowa City Indie pop duo Shades recently released their debut EP ‘Can’t See The Haters’. The band, which consists of siblings Casey Mattes (producer) and Mary Mattes (vocalist) is squad goals. After all, some of the best bands have had the sibling connection (Good Charlotte, My Chemical Romance) so it only makes sense that Shades’ undertaking is purely in sync. ‘Can’t See The Haters’ consists of 6 singles, all of which showcase the band’s performance prowess, vocal talents, songwriting skills, and musicianship.
Though Shades is considered an indie pop collective, upon first listen it is evident that their music has a distinct mainstream appeal. Listeners will capture elements of alternative rock, hip-hop and EDM music. Casey and Mary are dialed into the sounds that are current today, the sounds that mean the most to younger audiences.
Even though their music expresses a strong sensibility for what is trendy, Shades’ sound is by no means basic. ‘Can’t See The Haters’ is a complex formulation of luminescent melodies, inspiring lyrical content, and youthful vibrance. Though Shades’ inception is relatively new, it is evident that the respective artists have been working diligently to craft their sounds for quite some time. We’ll take you through the 6 tracks on the EP and share a few highlights, but we highly recommend delving into the sounds of Shades for yourself to gain the full experience.
The first song on the EP is “Not Really Sorry” which casts a very bright light in terms of ambiance. The song has a pleasantly rebellious flair that is reminiscent to Tay Tay’s 1989. No shade (no pun intended!) we totally love Tay Tay but let’s keep it one to the hundred, “Not Really Sorry” has much more bounce and goes to places where Miss Swift probably wouldn’t dare. The track is edgy but not gritty, spirited but not vexed.
“Not Really Sorry” is layered with ear-pleasing instrumentals, delivering a fun pop sound with a bit of dirty bass making it a perfectly cool club sound factor or a laid-back chill tune. The song presents a fusion of synth-infused EDM, dreamy melodies and cooling ambient waves. Fans of pop and EDM blends will enjoy the festive feel of the song.
Although the track has an elevated feel, the lyrical content contrasts the vibe of the song. Mary expresses some frustration with a relationship and asks some pertinent questions that seem to lead to some form of self-discovery. Mary sings, “I’m not the type to follow your agenda”, which speaks to the freeing feelings associated with being independent. She goes on to sing, “maybe, we’ll see I’ll try to stick around, if you try to hold your ground, there is no guarantee”. This is a theme that anyone can relate to in terms of balancing a relationships and personal aspirations. We get the feeling that Mary feels no regret if she has to shelf a partner, friend or foe and focus on her goals, we can dig that.
The next track on the EP that fans will get to absorb is “Kill The Darkness” a dynamic track with a fantastic hybrid of electronic music elements. As the song progressives listeners will experience a wave of emotions as expressed through vocals and music intertwined. Once again, listeners will encounter a production that deals with the changing tides of human relations. “Kill The Darkness” conveys a conflicted experience that will resound with listeners.
As Mary sings, “we got problems, the list runs as long as the road that’s before us”, she makes no mistake to still mention, that she has “tunnel vision”. We really appreciate being able to experience the raw emotion behind this track which is complemented by the instrumentals. Mary showcases the diverse range of her skills by also spitting a few rap bars on this track, doing so in the most poetic manner.
“Kill The Darkness” starts of with warm set of melodies which quickly transform into electrifying sonic waves and dub sequences which roar across the mix. The track has an interesting tropical vibe that is temperate but also refreshing. The vibe of the track is energetic, uplifting and sensory.
Following, “Kill The Darkness” is the fitting mix, “Rainbowz” which has a grittier edge. At this point in the EP it is clear that the songs are arranged in such a manner to tell a story. “Rainbowz” takes a very direct approach and also has a slightly darker ambiance than the previous tracks, despite its title. The song morphs before the ears, delivering a multifaceted listening experience that journeys from street to dreamy and dark to light with vocal musings.
“Rainbowz” transitions through classical sounding instrumentals to cinematic waves and beyond urban-laced beats. The track has a deep dark base line and sharp percussive accents. Ambient waves peer through the arrangement while stretchy synths linger in harmony with Mary’s vocals which alter from theatrical to gritty rap.
“Rainbowz” is truly an artistic production that is deep in terms of lyrical content and complex in terms of musical production. The song is as aggressive as it is subtle and as uplifting as it is pensive. By the song’s finish, fans will feel an odd sense of elation and a touch of hope as delicate melodies and an epic vocal performance gently fade out.
A song that tells another moving story while showing off the band’s wide rage is “American Dream”. The track offers an orchestrated sound that is mashed up with a folksy feel and retro pop vibe. The song deals with many different topics and issues that are relevant today, making the song timely. Despite the energetic feel of the track, there are some heavy messages expressed through the songwriting.
When, Mary sings, “What would you say if I stood up an walked the fuck away”, listeners can feel frustrations with conventional means. The song is sung from several different perspective which creates an interesting balance in the storytelling. The focus of the song toggles in such a way that it conveys a series of emotions that range from anger and frustration to contentment and resolve. Lyrics that stick out which sum up the experience are “My dream is not your dream, but I really like it”.
Shades bring the tempo down on “Back & Forth”, another powerful song with enticing instrumentals and a compelling vocal performance. “Back & Forth” introduces fans to a different side of Shades, one that will not be experienced in the previous tracks. This song which also delivers quintessential songwriting, is immense though it plays out like lounge staple. Mary gives a sultry vocal performance over grooving sonic layers for a completely infectious experience.
Shades slays on this song in more ways than one. Mary sings, “Catch me and lock me up, cuz you’re in control, you’re on top” and then “ you out of line, a rogue detonator and when your trigger’s pulled my walls are fallin’ down’. We are here for this explosive track that is delivered with such subtlety that it will either hypnotize you into submission or leave you picking up the pieces.
We’re excited about the instrumentals on this track because they are a delectable fusion of throwback synths and futuristic ambient waves with a faint hip-hop vibe. “Back & Forth” is complicated and intoxicatingly beautiful.
‘Can’t See The Haters’ concludes with the title track, a song which starts out with cinematic waves and rich piano melodies. The song performs like a dark street ballad as each layer slowly builds from the dark, converging with illuminated moments before returning to shadowy areas. Fans will enjoy the changing textures of this track which convey feely vibes and an emotional vocal performance.
Shades gives listeners strong lyrical content and powerful songwriting that lingers in the mind touching on realistic complexities. Few artists are able to do this while also bringing good music to the table. Often we are forced to accept one or the other and take the trade-offs as they come for the sake of mainstream entertainment. “Can’t See The Haters” accomplishes the daunting task of putting out great music that speaks to the spirit while delivering powerful messages. King Solomon kicks the story up a notch on “Altar Call”, a track which is certain to leave chills behind. “Altar Call” opens with a sequence of beautiful piano chords and slowly building synths which do not overshadow King Solomon’s voice. He performs with a combination of spoken word, rap lyrics and sung verses. The song opens up with a humble prayer that is offered up to the Father.
Throughout “Altar Call” fans are given a look into the conflicted world that is associated with turning from faith or choosing to walk by faith. King Solomon seems to cry out over this track, washing it with tears of a very personal confession. After an encounter with the Savior, he shares from different perspectives what a life of doubt holds. King Solomon teaches fans that even though living by faith is not easy, it is worth it to be welcomed into the arms of the Father. By the end of the song, King Solomon sets aside all things worldly and returns to faith.
King Solomon introduces another collaboration on “Yahweh” (feat. Truthz & Moyege). The title of the song references the Hebrew term for God. “Yahweh” through soulful melodies, uplifting vocals and another set inward rap bars delivered courtesy of King Solomon. King Solomon shares with fans a series of questions that arise after reading through the bible. The questions delve into themes about purpose, where God exists, and if God is able to hear the calls of his followers. As King Solomon croons, “I’m facing a terrible crisis of faith”, listeners are encouraged to dig deeper into the meaning of the term “Yahweh”.
The questions that King Solomon offers up are highly-relevant and likely lingering in the minds of followers whether they are convicted or still sitting on the fence. King Solomon challenges the stereotypes of religion and interpretations that are often taught to instill a fear of God vs. fearing Him with reverence.
“Yahweh” is a beautiful production that handles some pertinent themes. Through it’s infectious performance, the track makes it feel easy to explore and ask questions to gain further clarity on what it means to call on the name of the Lord. King Solomon is not afraid to engage in discussions that need to be had, conversations that will advance humans forward into greater insights.
The next cut on the album is “Be a Man”, an upbeat track with an equally as energetic beat. The synth-driven production continues to navigate through the world of confusion of living between two worlds. Using a series of furiously laid bars, King Solomon attempts to reveal answers to the questions of why. Why encompasses the stereotypes and generalizations linked to the idea of what it means to be a man.

King Solomon continues chronicling worldly nuances that have led to the decline and various imbalances on a society level. The artist makes it known that he is here to evoke change if not have a direct hand in it. Where there is no hope, King Solomon is here to change that.
While there may be times when believers have a narrow focus, King Solomon finds through his song that party of the journey is to give attention to issues that are affecting the world beyond the bible. He says abruptly, “I am chasing kingdom glory, that doesn’t mean that I can’t be focused”. This is a valid point to consider when thinking about one’s personal journey and its impact beyond self.
The next song on the album is “Lullaby” (feat. Anjee). “Lullaby” is a distinctly melodic track with subtly orchestrated instrumentals. The title of this song is ironic as it conveys a childlike ambiance however the content delivered on the song is far more mature in terms of coming to a greater level of understanding.
“Lullaby” is the type of song that provides comfort and reassurance that “it will be alright” as Anjee sings. Every once in awhile, even those individuals who walk by the word need to be reminded that they are free to experience human emotion. Often times we are led to believe that a life based on faith means a separation from all worldly concepts, including love, but with this piece we are reminded that this is not the case. King also sheds some light on the type of artist he will be moving forward, not limiting himself to what is stereotypically expected of a ‘gospel’ rapper.
King Solomon invokes the name of the Lord on “Oluwa Provide”. “Oluwa” references a Yoruba term that is also used for “God”. On the track, which consists of tropical melodies and a warm beat, King Solomon asks “Oluwa” to light his path. King Solomon shares that he is a little apprehensive about taking the journey and isn’t quite sure what to expect.
Sometimes the road to redemption feels lonely however, knowing you can count on the Lord to guide you along your journey brings comfort. The artist shows audiences that it is okay to ask for help along the journey. The Almighty is there to illuminate the road ahead but the believer must continue to walk. Before the end of the song, King Solomon finds resolve and confidence in the Lord’s ability to be a light along the path.
The textured tropical vibes continue on “Everybody Cries” (feat. ërin Hebrews). “Everybody Cries” is a lighthearted production with gentle melodies and a captivating dance beat. The lyrical content on the track is inspirational, telling audiences that it’s okay to cry if you want to. Fans will find this song to be ironic as King Solomon makes references to familiar elements in a world where we are taught to hold our emotions inside.
Through, “Everybody Cries” opens up a whole new world of enlightenment while challenging the status quo of societies and cultures far and wide. King Solomon is not afraid to go there and makes it very much known that everybody cries, figuratively and literally. The song is a powerful showcase of King Solomon’s innate ability to be original.
Ironically, “Sinking” (feat. ërin Hebrews) expresses the challenges of walking a different path than the majority and what becomes of it. “Sinking” is a song that expresses feelings of abandonment and vulnerability. King Solomon’s performance along with ërin Hebrews is fraught with angst and frustration which are conveyed through the artists’ voices but still, within the song is a measure of hope.
Fans will also relate to this song especially if they are struggling with faith in a realm where it may not always be considered a popular choice. You can literally feel that you are being pulled in different directions and desperate for relief. “Sinking” is a song that will make you feel uncomfortable but hopeful.
The realization that faith can be exhausting is expressed on “Tired (Small Voice) [feat. Moyege]. By this song on the album, King Solomon has shared with listeners an epic battle against the norm while fighting hard to uphold the power of the blood. You can imagine what it is like to traverse over a shaky terrain where you are just one of a few, a minority an individual who has turned in a different direction from the crowd.
Consider, the excursion that sometimes meets resistance, often leaves you in a desolate space and sometimes brings danger but still in your heart, you must continue to persevere. You continue pushing through because you know that on the other end of the journey is something far more glorious than words can describe. The aforementioned is the experience that King Solomon shares on “Tired”. For anyone who feels like giving up and turning away from the path, King Solomon offers more powerful words of encouragement.
The weary mood on “Tired” finds rejuvenation on the track “Rise (feat. Anjee)”. “Rise” is another stirring track which metaphorically lifts believers up after peril. One can expect that walking by faith is no easy trek. A faithful follower can anticipate being beaten and bruised mentally and sometimes physically but even if you are at lowest as King Solomon and Anjee tell us, “you can rise”. “Rise” is an intoxicating track provides encouragement, cheering believers on like that little voice inside that tells you to keep pushing.
As ‘Illuminate the Dark” starts to wind down the track, “Hallowed Be Thy Name” (feat. Bethia Morris & Joshua Kilonda) takes on an optimistic tone. King Solomon is not afraid to let it be known that there was a time when his faith did fall by the wayside, however as part of the experience he was able to rediscover joy and enlightenment. The experience of rolling away darkness and bringing in the light is a very personal story, one that will inspire hope and redemption, something that souls may be in desperate need of.
“Hallowed Be Thy Name” is a very musical production that is scored by festive pianos, progressive percussion and electric guitars and synths. The song delivers a strong feeling of resolve while performing as an inspirational piece. “Hallowed Be Thy Name” casts a gorgeous light upon the name of God and all that believers are able to bear witness to.
‘Illuminate the Dark’ concludes with the acoustic stylings of “A Love Song”. At this point on the album, fans meet with a brand new King Solomon who summarizes the adventures involved in coming to eventually know Christ and everlasting love. While King Solomon is sure to mention that there aren’t enough words to express exactly how deep his love runs, he gets his point across.
“A Love Song” conveys as the end of one journey and the start of another which will lead to the ultimate destination. King Solomon places his heart on this track in which listeners will again be able to feel the emotions poured into every lyric and measure played. King Solomon speaks to fans from a very reflective point of view and the message can easily be digested over the easy tone of the performance.
‘Illuminate the Dark’, a powerful album by King Solomon could not have been released at a better time. When humanity as a whole has seemingly reached new and unsettling crossroads, it is comforting to know that there are artists using their platforms to make a difference. King Solomon has presented fans with a rare, adventurous and sometimes tumultuous journey into the arms of the Father. His performance on ‘Illuminate the Dark’ offers a striking amount of authenticity as fans will be able to connect with the emotion in his voice on every single album track. King Solomon’s lyrical content on ‘Illuminate the Dark’ is raw and full of truth. Scandic Tribe opens ‘Light at the End’ with a moving 2 minute introduction which happens to wrapped up in slow churning guitar chords. Between the dreamy melodies played on the intro, an inspiring message is spoken over the track. Phrases such as “Surround yourself with only positive people”, “don’t let anyone bring you down”, “lead the way” and “positivity is the key” are offered as the precursor of what is to come.
Following the introduction is a grimy guitar-driven rock song titled “Dusty Sunrise”. Scandic Tribe delivers a sleepless production with intense instrumentals and gripping vocals. Pounding percussion rocks out on this invigorating song which warms the soul. Commanding electric guitar riffs scream as the band performs infectious vocal harmonies. “Dusty Sunrise” is a soul-stirring song that never releases you from an organic high.
The next cut on ‘Light at the End’ is “Only Time Will Heal”, a rising wave of epic sounds and classic rock nuances. While singing a remarkable tune, the band draws fans in with an addicting flurry of powerful instrumentals to include magnetic guitar performances and possessing melodies. There is something very theatrical about “Only Time Will Heal”. The dynamic song would make a wonderful soundtrack for a coming of age film or reawakening of some sort.
‘Heaven’, the next song on ‘Light at the End’ takes a different approach compared to the previous two performances. The song teases with a relaxed introduction before it morphs into another stunning display. Through awe-inspiring chords and surging vocals, ‘Heaven’ slowly rises and crests into a soul-inspiring showcase of contrasting waves. Gritty instrumentation is intertwined within dark percussion and bass while the band’s notable Nordic melodies can be heard half-way through, giving a nostalgic vibe from an earlier time period. After Scandic Tribe’s performance of ‘Heaven’, what remains are chills all up and down the spine.
A song with a distinct rebellious attitude is ‘Revolution of Confusion’, which opens up with another dirty guitar riff, deep drum sequence and the familiar sounding “do you see what I see, do you feel what I feel”. As Scandic Tribe asks listeners to join the revolution as they deliver a sound reminiscent to those of Black Sabbath. ‘Revolution of Confusion’ is a memorable performance with a recognizable metal essence and the innate genius to reach a wide audience.
“Life is Good” is an emotional performance with a slower tempo. The song kindles the spirit with powerful instrumental melodies and inspiring songwriting. The lyrics of the song offer a hopeful perspective while the smooth sounds captivate. Scandic Tribe offers a marvelous contrast between each song, showcasing a boundless range of diversity and a myriad of musical influences.
The title track “Light At The End” is a legendary song that is heartwarming but somber. The lively instrumentation on the song contrasts with the poignant lyrics within the songwriting. With all elements blended together, “Light At The End” presents an extraordinary performance that lingers on after the song concludes.
The instrumental “Angel” is an aesthetic performance and ideal follow up to “Light at the End”. “Angel” communicates through music, a myriad of emotions while holding the listeners attention firmly. The instrumental is very raw and acoustic however it performs like a prism, casting a wide spectrum of textures and luminescent layers.
“Angel” leads into the “My Sweet Baby Valentine” which is a song that delivers a completely different vibe than the earlier performances on the album. “My Sweet Baby Valentine” is another heartwarming performance however it does convey a rather somber tune. The album truly contains some intricate story-telling rather than just some repetitive lines thus igniting the listener’s curiosity about the sources of inspiration for each of the songs.
The subtle vibes continue on “Heroes”, an iconic performance that pays homage to the brave. “Heroes” is a multifaceted song that includes a rainbow of colorful riffs that vary in tempo and pitch. The song has a catchy and emotive chorus that casts a bright light on the overall message delivered. Whereas “Light At The End” and “My Sweet Baby Valentine” embody retroactive nuances circa 90s rock and alternative, “Heroes” goes even further back with a folksy feel yet the song is fascinatingly modern.
‘Light at the End’ concludes with “Sad Time II”, a suave rock-fusion with folk influences and country elements. Scandic Tribe brings their overarching message of light and love home on “Sad Time II”. Though there are dark moments that happen on this track as accentuated by the slow-moving instrumental performance, rays of light can be experienced through the chorus which offers a brighter perspective. As the band sings, “let the good times roll, let the sad times go” listeners are left with feelings of hope and optimism.
Scandic Tribe, with ‘Light at the End’ has introduces music fans to an exceptional body of work which is as imaginative as it is inspiring. While the album ventures down some incredibly gloomy paths, they are overcome by luminescent moments. Scandic Tribe provokes a range of emotions that sway effortlessly from riveting highs to melancholy lows, each perfectly articulated through music.
Fans who have the opportunity to experience ‘Light at the End’ upon its release should expect a earnest performance that reaches deep into the pit of one’s soul. Through intricate storytelling and fervent musicianship, fans will experience a stunning sonic display. The combination of sound and songwriting on the album suggest that there is a great force at work and Scandic Tribe has been crowned the vessel by which to carry it forward. Ultimately, the band provides a relevant story for audiences to behold. On ‘Light at the End’, rock is abundant and the chronicles of life infinite. This is an album that will essentially set you free.
‘Light at the End’ is a timely showcase that is fit for all audiences without regard to geographic location or musical preference. While the band makes no mistake to include elements that are near and dear to the core of their sounds and exquisite heritage, it is a plight that is to be respected and appreciated by all. With March 6th, 2018 is just a few weeks away and fans are eagerly waiting for the debut release. Our suggestion is to get ready because Scandic Tribe is poised to take listeners on a highly-emotional, metaphorical roller-coaster that will either leave you laughing for crying but either way is certain to spark the flames of change.

‘Desert Rose’, a musical story by lyricist and producer L.HUNT is a masterful production that tells a visually stunning tale. The album which consists of 19 tracks delivers intricate storytelling from a rare vantage point. L.HUNT takes fans on a remarkable journey through each carefully produced work. ‘Desert Rose’ is dramatic, theatrical and captivating. The album is considered to fall within the genre of Rock Opera and fans of musical theater, rock and classical music will be in for an absolute delight.
The Rock Opera album opens its grand performance with the Prelude titled “In Search of a Rose”. The acoustic production is delivered with a handsome monologue delivered by a youthful male voice. ‘In Search of a Rose’ tells a unique story that is simply beguiling as it travels through time. Although the Prelude is fleeting, fans will immediately succumb into the hypnotic instrumentation presented on the score.
Following the desolate and longing discovered on “In Search of a Rose”, L.HUNT serves up “The Song of the Desert”, a beautiful composition that officially opens ‘Desert Rose’. “The Song of the Desert” is a lighthearted production that delivers delicate instrumentals, deep piano melodies and dreamy winds which blow gently throughout the score.
A timely composition titled “An Exhausted Land” emerges from ‘Desert Rose’. A dramatic piano accompaniment and soft rock vocals tell a moving story on the song which is accented by sound effects and heart wrenching news stories. “An Exhausted Land” places listeners directly inside the living room of one of the story’s characters. Rumbling horns and a painful wave of chords wash over the song while leaving chills behind.
Another emotive performance on the album is “High Towers & Railway Spikes”, a pensive song with an intense message. “High Towers & Railway Spikes” is a dynamic listening experience that rises and falls with sonic waves, contrasting layers of sound throughout the score.
L.HUNT changes the tone of the project with the track “Rubble Rabble” (Voices w/o Sense). “Rubble Rabble” is a production that embodies the American ethos. The song is raw but full of personality and slightly dusty. As characters in this moving performance exchange in a fascinating dialogue, fans are given a view into what appears to be the wild-west. In a scene that is opened up with harmonicas, fiddles, and the sounds of trains chugging across the tracks, listeners are seemingly taken back to another time period.
Moving into the performance is “Driftwood (I Know the Rains Will Come)” an alluring duet with soulful horns and thunderous instrumentals. “Driftwood” performs like a broadway play, offering a call and response dialogue. Another intricately produced track, “Driftwood” conjures up images from decades past when an outsider’s fate was determined by a close-knit community just before going before a guillotine. “Driftwood” places listeners on the edge of their seats as they eagerly await what is to come.
“Black or White” is another bone-chilling composition on ‘Desert Rose’. “Black or White” is a muggy track that appears to be the calm after a storm. The hybrid of sound on “Black or White” is engrossing as dramatic strings whine along with lingering piano chords. Following the drifting waves feel to be what could only be described as a sandstorm. “Black or White” delivers changing waves which range from soft and subtle to rough and aggressive instrumentally. The song is full of weight both alluring and frightening at the same time.
Following “Black or White” is “I Misplaced the Place (Doubling Back)”, a song that reflects inward. “I Misplaced the Place (Doubling Back)” is a fantastically modern-sounding production that speaks to the wide range of styles L.HUNT presents on ‘Desert Rose’. As dramatic as the previous cuts on the album, “I Misplaced the Place (Doubling Back)” connects with fans through very personal storytelling.
L.HUNT forces listeners to dig even deeper into the story of ‘Desert Rose’ with the song, “(I’m Not) Finding the Way Home”. “(I’m Not) Finding the Way Home” is a friendly production which happens to continue an incredible journey. The song conveys the emotions of the character in such a way that listeners are entangled with the story themselves. The composition rouses the imagination while creating beautiful visuals through music and songwriting.
A soul-infused production on ‘Desert Rose’ is “Dust, Rust & Broken Glass”, which emerges from the album with epic disco vibes and female dance vocals. “Dust, Rust & Broken Glass” has a distinct retro feel that permeates the track. Gentle waves flow throughout the song which in contrast to its title feel carefree and uplifting. Despite its lively presence there seems to be a great deal of pain hidden within the characters playing on “Dust, Rust & Broken Glass”. The song which offers some playful melodies is placed in juxtaposition with dark lyrical content, creating an often chaotic scene that is full of anxiety and frustration.
Following the mad crazy fun fest showcased on “Dust, Rust & Broken Glass” is “She is Woman”. “She is Woman” presents a lovely contrast which not only makes use of vivid storytelling but lavish metaphors. The conversation which takes place between the characters through song provides a stern warning which will be heartily accepted.
Another legendary track on the album is “Until When?”. “Until When?” delivers a cool essence that can be felt as the piano sings in harmony with the strings and in tune with a deep grooving rhythm. “Until When?” draws fans into a different realm than they have experienced on the previous album compositions. The track is an instrumental one that will touch the mind and senses.
As “Until When?” fades, “Parched” soon appears with a bringing with it a series of heavy-laden instrumentals and stretching melodies. Delicate snare drums, sultry horns and weather-beaten piano chords march slowly over this downtempo song. As the lead sings, “I am begging you to stop this burning”, it is evident that the character in this rare journey has been through an ordeal and is desperate for relief. “Parched”, despite its will to surrender exudes the will to survive and the hope for salvation.
“The Sun, a Shield & a Sanctuary” sounds the alarm literally and metaphorically through bold instrumentals and stunning sound effects. “The Sun, a Shield & Sanctuary” awakens the spirit with inspiring lyrics and intoxicating synths. The song captures a myriad of emotions through its score. Listeners will journey along to experience doubt, confusion and resolve.
Listeners continue the journey with “I Will Wait”, a song which embodies a distinct foreign feel. Another reflective production, “I Will Wait” shares a very personal point of view through rock-infused vocals, the gentle strumming of guitars and fluttering winds. “I Will Wait” exudes hope and determination.
The show moves along on “Death: A Jagged Shadow”, an extraordinary performance which offers varied tones, textures and personalities all adding their own two cents to the song. Choppy melodies and luminescent chords are deceptive on “Death” A Jagged Shadow” as the songwriting and musical accompaniment seem to contrast each other.
Moving further beyond “Death” A Jagged Shadow”, listeners will encounter “She Blossomed”, a stirring performance that is scored by powerful female vocals which extend across a vast range.”She Blossomed” conveys intense passion through every note. The song will remain with listeners causing them to believe that the impossible is somehow possible. L.HUNT again captures the nature of the west through graphic imagery and descriptive metaphors. Listeners find themselves on the brighter side of the spectrum after taking an unforgettable journey.
“Finding the Way Home (Reprise)” is another memorable number and reprise for the earlier song “(I’m not) Finding the Way Home)”. The performance on ‘Desert Rose’ evolves full-circle as it prepares for a momentous conclusion, illustrating how each character in the story figuratively and literally finds their way home.Comparing life and love to a rose, L.HUNT creates a marvelous work of art that is solidified through electrifying instrumentals and a passionate vocal performance.
‘Desert Rose’ wraps with a gritty performance on “In the Light (A Sun That is Not Harsh)”. “In the Light (A Sun That is Not Harsh) performs like a country music song. The production offers a phenomenal finale for fans who have embarked on such a wondrous journey. Like all of the songs on ‘Desert Rose’, “In the Light (A Sun That is Not Harsh) challenges listeners to engage with not only the music and vocal performances but also the intricate story behind ‘Desert Rose’.

‘BARE’ the newest release by Swiss-American singer and songwriter Celeste Buckingham will leave you with chills. The album which is not the first for the young, but accomplished talent is a righteous show of force. Celeste delivers a pristine performance and soul-stirring rhythms. She commands attention from the very first track on ‘BARE’ and continues to maintain a strong grip until the last cut fades out. There are simply not enough words to describe the experience of ‘BARE’ and do it justice but we will certainly try. The truth is, you will have to listen for yourself however, we present our finest attempt to capture the essence of ‘BARE’ which has left the girls at G&S going gaga for Celeste Buckingham.
The first track on the album “Paradise” is an instant hitmaker. Celeste asserts herself as a force to be reckoned with while performing flawless vocals and sweet harmonies. She has plenty of attitude to boot and kicks doors down at the same time. “Paradise” performs as an unapologetic anthem. The song has a distinct message that speaks volumes as the singer-songwriter croons, “this ain’t paradise, it’s as cold as ice though there is magic in your bones, I don’t understand”. Celeste doesn’t back down and the energy on this track is empowering and inspiring. Besides her amazing vocal performance, the instrumentals are equally as possessing.
“Addict”, another song on ‘BARE’ emerges with heavy bass-driven beats and funky synths. “The song presents as a chaotic track which embodies the frenzied lyrical content introduced by Celeste who spits a fury of rap bars. You can feel the emotional roller coaster she is taking fans on with the execution of every single lyric, verse and hook. “Addict” is without a doubt an intoxicating production that makes it cool to be slightly “unhinged”. We are perfectly okay with losing our minds with Celeste who sings, “losing my mind and I kind of like that”. So do we Celeste, so do we. Just when you thought the bar couldn’t get any higher with “Paradise”, “Addict” makes a slam dunk.
Speaking of the highly addicting sounds of Celeste Buckingham, you will want to continue indulging in musical libations on the track “Intoxicated”. The track is incredibly emotional as you can feel the heart and soul pouring out of Celeste’s vocals. The song has an inspiring message that fans will relate to. Digging into the conflict of addiction using gorgeous metaphors, “Intoxicating” is an uncut view into the ethos of a musician, the essence of an artist.
Celeste turns down ever so slightly on “All This” a track that slays with a clean beat and slicing lyrics. Celeste transitions between tight, gritty vocals and soft, lingering melodies. “All This” is another emotive track that exhibits frustrations which are of course relatable to the masses. As Celeste sings, “all this”, listeners can capture the exasperation in her voice. She does a wonderful job creating a contrasting listening experience. Celeste performs in such a manner that fans are able to journey with her, feeling every note from start to finish.
Celeste demonstrates her diversity as a singer-songwriter on “Rose” a guitar-driven song that presents with acoustic nuances. “Rose” is a stunning performance that speaks to the elements of a traditional ballad. Celeste continues to showcase her wide vocal range while giving fans a different, softer perspective. “Rose” has a more somber feel, the track is moving and feels very personal.
“Go Away” another uptempo track on the album returns to the bold vibes heard on the previous tracks. Celeste delivers a dance-worthy performance on “Go Away” while incorporating some reggae-infused vibes. The message on the track is self-assured and authoritative. Both women and men will find the courage and confidence refreshing in this particular track which happens to take a firm stand. Celeste has released a music video for “Go Away” and it is fire. Check out the visual display below.
Watch Celeste Buckingham “Go Away”
The next track that Celeste blesses fans with on ‘BARE’ is “Selfish”. “Selfish” is a reflective track that explores a myriad of introspective moments. The song offers catchy, synth-heavy elements which inspire subtle head-nods. “Selfish” is a slower tempo production which provides the space for Celeste to display her diversity as an artist. “Selfish” is certain to bring out the feels for fans who enjoy a song with meaningful lyrics.
Another moving track on ‘BARE’ is “Immature”, which communicates a direct message while speaks to the challenges of various relationships. Celeste says all of the things that everyday people are thinking without a care. She lures fans in with soft and alluring hooks before snatching them up with the intense “Why are you! Why are you! Why are you!” refrains.
Approaching the album’s close is “Trip” a sultry song that delivers soulful harmonies and exuberant melodies. “Trip” has a distinct R&B flair as carried through Celeste’s passionate vocals. The song is an easy listen and embodies the throwback nuances that mature audiences frequently crave.
‘BARE’ closes out with the heartfelt performance on “Time is Ours”. The song is punctuated by a series of hypnotic piano chords which roll endlessly over the track as Celeste sings a profound tune. “Time is Ours” is an uplifting song that captures the ear with lingering presence and strong emotional appeal.
Celeste Buckingham, on ‘BARE’ has served up a dynamic listening experience for music fans. She delivers a wildly modern sound while delivering her own distinct style. Though her sound is reminiscent to artists such as P!nk and Jessie J, she has truly created a lane of her own. Every single song on the album exudes strong emotion which is noticeably conveyed through Celeste’s vocal prowess. She delivers songwriting content that is relevant and relatable to a wide audience, void of generational boundaries. ‘BARE’ is deep, soulful and infectious but, in retrospect cannot be categorized into a single genre. The tracks on the album range from those that include pop influences to others that encompass hip-hop, R&B, soul and rock elements. While ‘BARE’ exposes the best of Celeste Buckingham, our guess is that the album is only an introduction of what is to come.
While Celeste’s musical and performance style is unrivaled, fans who enjoy listening to artists such as Julia Michaels, Sia, Alessia Cara or Zara Larsson will gravitate towards the sounds of Celeste Buckingham.

Behind the Sound with Ibaadat™
How was Ibaadat™ formed and why did you both decide to collaborate with each other?
I was passionate for music since childhood and so was Aman We started learning music from our school days and when we got into our respective colleges, we started participating in various inter college singing competitions. From those competitions we started getting positive feedback from many people and we did won many prizes together. Passion towards music made us to learn about it more and I always wanted music as my career. Also, we wanted to be known as independent group of musicians. so we decided to bring that dream into action. Since I and other band members worship music with our heart and soul we named the band ‘Ibaadat’. It’s an Urdu word, meaning worship and Selfless Love, since we wanted the word to be very pure and Sufi.
Can you give us some insights into your musical backgrounds?
We both don’t have any family musical backgrounds, no one has ever imagined that we will choose music as our career option. I never took music lightly. I don’t know from where this passion came but I always wanted to be an expert in d field of music be it a singer or a Music Director. We used to save pennies out of my pocket money to give fees of music classes.
Later I learned guitar from Mr. Prakash Gaur while Aman is blessed with a soulful voice & was taught by his Mother who herself is a singer, then we joined Agra Gharana & Patiala Gharana respectively, for polishing & enhancing our skills to next level.
Who are some of your artistic and musical influences?
We are highly influenced by different Genres, I am much more into Folk ,Sufi, classical & Rock Genre and Aman is more into Ghazals, Romantic, Indie & Pop music. We both are highly inspired by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahab, Master Saleem, Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan, Papon, Lucky Ali.
What would you say are the most distinct elements about your sound?
I think “Feel”. Yes, that’s what our main aim to deliver our audience. You will always find that “feel” in our song. If you can’t understand Hindi but if you have good melody sense then you will surely enjoy our music.
How do you come up with a concept for a record?
Like we wanted to produce something blissful. So when I composed this song and write Lyrics with him, the song immediately got stuck to our heart and we were smiling each other with a same thought in Mind. It’s hard to say too much about what this sounds like, because it’ll sound a little different to everybody. But I think you could agree that it has a certain sweetness with pain too. And that is unique. To me, I think it’s a bit about that time when many of us face these situations. maybe some have felt loss, struggle and love towards one’s beloved.
Can you take us through your songwriting and composition processes?
Usually, We compose the melody first and then we put words into it. I compose all the songs initially and Aman helps me with the ideas and within maximum 5 minutes we make our song and vision about it. For this song specifically, we took time to write lyrics, but we composed our song very quickly. When you are in particular feel it comes naturally from your heart and you don’t take so much time for it.
What would you consider to be the most challenging part about bringing awareness to your music?
In India, People are heavily obsessed with Bollywood music, so their source to get aware about new music is Bollywood most probably. So we find difficulty to promote our music in the already occupied market by Bollywood but good news is that things are getting changed now and Indie bands are getting lot of exposure from last decade.
Why was “Jiyun Kaise” selected as the newest release for your project?
We had couple of songs in our bucket list but I thought “Jiyun Kaise” has his own class, and initially people will love it. As it has the decent amalgamation of Love and Pain. So we released it. We have much bigger plans for our next music singles.
When fans new and old have the opportunity to engage with your music, what do you hope they will take away from the experience?
It is written in a bit old sense, the classic sense yet music and the complete black backgrounds with specific focuses have given some sort of freshness to the song. I personally loved the music that plays behind the song in it. So, all the fans whether new or old should watch it and I am hopeful that they will love the feel the love in it.
Where can fans discover more Ibaadat™ music?
You can tune up to our facebook page and Youtube Channel for upcoming videos and songs.
It is a new year, what can listeners expect from the group for 2018?
It’s a new year-first of all a very happy and bless full new year to whoever is reading this interview. And yes we do have plans in this new year as we are sort of busy doing right now doing our shows and some scoring for a movie. We are looking forward to making some new releases.

Baltimore artist Haute Rod released his EP titled ‘The Complication A Beautiful Tragedy’ towards the end of 2017. The project consists of 11 distinct tracks which embody the ethos of Haute Rod who is recognized for his raw lyrical content. The latest single from ‘The Complication A Beautiful Tragedy’ is “Rod”, a soul-driven track with a personal approach, infectious cadence and vivid metaphors.
“Rod” encompasses all of the elements of a street banger while exuding the essence of a thick underground groove. Suave rhythms accentuate this track in which Haute Rod introduces descriptive storytelling and candid snapshots of his life through lyrics. “Rod” is the quintessential answer to haters far and wide as Haute Rod lyrically slays naysayers as he says “this is the last time I visit here”. The artist gives an unapologetic performance that is 100% original and decidedly uncut.
‘The Complication A Beautiful Tragedy’ was released in October 2017, but we will get you up to speed with an overview of some of our favorite tracks on the release.
If you haven’t heard “Black Bar” ft. Sheila D., it’s time to wake up from your slumber, as this is not a track to sleep on. Haute Rod delivers another captivating performance with catchy bars and raw energy. “Black Bar” Is complemented by rap vocals courtesy of Sheila D. This is a rugged track with an assured message.
Haute Rod joins forces with songstress Rose Breyae on “Let You Know” an atypical hip-hop/R&B fusion that ventures away from the pop-flavor that listeners have grown so familiar with. “Let You Know” takes it back and is reminiscent to the pioneering sounds and daring music collaborations of the late 90s.
‘The Complication A Beautiful Tragedy’ is heavy on street narratives while dealing with topics that are often viewed as taboo to people who may be locked in their own gilded reality. Haute Rod presents a series of visuals through his body of work which will undoubtedly resound with hushed voices of many an individual. “Fallen Soldier” ft. Greenspan” is just one example of how Haute Rod conveys such messages.
The nostalgic elixir known as ‘The Complication A Beautiful Tragedy’ continues it’s coalescence of the not so distant past and the discordant present with “No Dayz Off”, a sonically distorted production with deep bass grooves and haunting melodies. Haute Rod uses drugs as a metaphor to deliver a powerful message.
Taking the competitive nature of the beast to the next level, “Elevate” ft. Legeion revisits some of the content heard on “Black Bar” while countering the societal constructs of blackness with real depictions, peeling back layers of black excellence with each subsequent bar.
The lyrical savagery on the EP continues with “FTW” in which Haute Rod makes the actual universe his bitch. Haute Rod goes there on “FTW” landing a direct hit on the music industry and various facets of society, leaving only remnants behind in what could only be considered a natural calamity.
Haute Rod hits the proverbial wall on ‘Strapped Mentally”; this is a track that many people can relate to. This production is a powerful track with a solid message. Unrefined and filled with fury, the production speaks to a myriad of frustrations that push individuals close to the edge while still offering a glimpse of hope. It is evident that Haute Rod is ready to battle some serious demons but he has mustered enough within to reach out to potentially stricken fans.
‘The Complication A Beautiful Tragedy’ starts to wrap up with “The Past” featuring Kyle Henley, a synth-focused production with catching instrumentals and a memorable hook. “The Past” is a sincere track that is incredibly relatable and forthcoming. Guys and girls will love this optimistic take on broken hearts.
The ultimate finish to the momentous occasion in which Haute Rod has gifted fans with is “Walking Through The Fire”, another toss back to eons past. “Walking Through The Fire” delivers succinct lyrical content and subtle dark grooves. The track is an emotional one that is both provocative and inspiring. Once again, Haute Rod deals with issues that many people may not want to grapple since the truth sometimes hurts but he does so with ease.
The very first track on the EP is “Condo Dreams” ft. Phllftyboiiurg, an underground hip-hop track with a poetic delivery and retro melodies. Haute Rod delivers gritty lyrics which are woven with a throwback R&B-style hook. Check out the music video for “Condo Dreams” ft. Phllftyboiiurg on YouTube.

Melbourne band Collegians recently released another single titled “Black Mass” to follow their popular hit “Vaccine” which reached #10 on the AMRAP Regional Charts, #23 on iTunes Rock Charts and the Top 20 on AIR Charts. The band, whose sound has been likened to acts such as Muse, Linkin Park, Garbage and Depeche Mode delivers a rock and electronic fusion that offers mainstream appeal. Though “Black Mass” has been described as a “true anti-establishment track” it beckons fans of popular music no matter where they fall on the political spectrum because after all, one cannot deny good music regardless of their leanings.
“Black Mass” conveys unrefined emotion and a strong inclination for originality. Collegians are re-introducing some of the sounds that will make now 30-somethings reminisce about including 90s alternative and punk while also introducing newer sounds that 20-somethings, tweens and teens will love. It is this wide-generational appeal that will allow the Collegians to transcend time much like the earlier bands they are compared to. Let there be no mistake however, though it is easy to draw comparisons to familiar acts due to some recognizable elements, the Collegians have created their own lane as defined through a unique sound. The fusion which intertwines electronic elements and rock nuances is unmistakable and righteously addictive.
In addition to the powerful musicianship on “Black Mass”, the songwriting and vocal performances also resonate with audiences. The band really gets to the core of topics that most acts reserve for their inner feelings or personal conversations rather than making such discussions public through music as a medium. Collegians have used their platform effectively, reaching listeners with meaningful content that will evoke an emotional response. This emotion can certainly be felt through every chord, beat, note, and riff as well as the carefully laid vocals.
Based in Melbourne, Australia, Collegians is a band that is known for their unapologetic digs into the emotions with their signature alternative-rock fusion. The band formed in 2014 and since landed a deal with Cultivator Records in 2015. Collegians commenced work on their debut album with the release of “Vaccine” which included a single and accompanying music video. Glenn Patrick, the band’s frontman has been recognized for his “raw-throated vocals” on lead. The band creates music that resonates with audiences with a high level of depth. Members of Collegians are no strangers to the stage and the band is revered for its live shows which capture the essence of their album. The band is also known for delivering explosive energy during live performances which has enabled the Collegians to reach a vast audience. The British-born lead vocalist and frontman Glenn states, “We all got into music because of the connection it makes with other people, no matter where you are, what you’re into. Music is such a blend these days that an audience reflects that. We just want to get onto that emotional level with crowds, and with whoever gets into the music. It’s all give and take, and we’re looking forward to the possibilities that lie ahead” (collegiansmusic.com).
Collegians have had some time to define their style in terms of writing and production. The foursome is still basking in the critical praise of their debut release “Vaccine” but has not stopped working. Fans are eager with the release of their latest single “Black Mass” which is making rounds across the music sphere to include radio airplay, chart tops, and an ever-expanding audience of new fans.
Part of Collegians signature sound encompasses pop-hooks, dark synths and deeply-rooted rock elements. Combining nuances of the past and facets of today, the band has developed a timely sound that is both compelling and candid. Audiences will take solace in relatable stories of darkness, solitude and anguish, knowing that they are not alone. The fact is, Collegians are bringing back the sounds that music has been missing for at least the last 20 years but with a refreshingly contemporary spin and they have done so with ideal timing.

In fact, the band which epitomizes the conventions of 80s and 90s metal through a modern framework has created a timeless body of work which will permeate the ages.
We spent some time digging into the sounds of Mad Duck and were pleasantly surprised by the band’s virtuosity in reinventing classic sounds for a contemporary audience. Whether you are a fan of rock, metal, punk or pop genres, you will enjoy the sounds of Mad Duck. Check out our takeaways from ‘Braggart stories and dark poems’…
Because Everyone Loves a Rebel!
“Renegade” the first track on ‘Braggart stories and dark poems’ is an edgy production with an infectious rhythm, gritty guitar work and driving energy. The song embodies the spirit of the 80s with rebellious vocals and a intricate riffs. “Renegade” is a spirited song with multi-generational appeal. While consisting of heavy chords and distinct polyrhythmics the track delivers a highly-texturized sound that not only entertains but engages listeners as well.
The second track on the album is “Tyger”, which includes Strive member Davide Merletto. In fact, David lends his vocal performance to all 9 of the tracks on the album. “Tyger” is an epic sounding production which includes a myriad of styles compact into one dynamic performance. The song delivers uplifting energy and inspiring tunes. Along with grimey guitars, fans can expect to indulge in luscious harmonies and moving melodies. Mad Duck gives a breathtaking performance that speaks to early rock influences while relating to a modern audience.
Fans of 90’s punk will enjoy the sounds introduced to listeners on the track “ElDorado”. “ElDorado” has a distinctly modern feel while still sharing some classic rock nuances. Mad Duck gives fans a delectable performance that is undoubtedly rich in texture, tone and presence. “ElDorado” is gushing with non-stop energy. Frenzied guitar riffs and highly-percussive rhythms capture the psyche through this hard-hitting performance.
A Journey to the Dark Side…
Mad Duck alters the tone ever so slightly on the performance of “City of Darkness”. Just when you are getting comfortable with the sounds executed on ‘Braggart stories and dark poems’, the band reinvents themselves before your very ears. “City of Darkness”, while also delivering a driving performance, contrasts various elements of rock music by playing with multiple tones and pitches. Instrumental waves cascade from high to low while expressing both gentle melodies and angry accents. “City of Darkness” actually transports the audience to another realm, perhaps a time period in the past or something reminiscent to the middle ages. It is rather wonderful how the band is able to illustrate a rich soundscape through music, thus inspiring listeners to engage with their imagination.
“At The Sign of The Skull” is another song that has a darker feel to it, however it progresses to a fast tempo and higher frequency. Once again sending out non-stop waves and complex instrumentation, Mad Duck demonstrates their ability to navigate through different sequences while creating a juxtaposition between rock nuances, varying harmonies and melodies to create a changing experience for fans who will likely never tire from the morphing of the band’s prowess.
The next track, “Down Among The Dead Men” is the quintessential rock performance. Just when you think you have heard your favorite song from Mad Duck, you’ll soon discover the list is endless. “Down Among The Dead Men” garners the attention immediately with its nasty introduction and we mean that in the best way possible. “Down Among The Dead Men” is grimy, raw and brutal. The song pounds hard and resounds deeply and beckons fans with audacity.
Epic and Cinematic…
‘Braggart stories and dark poems’ is bound to offer its fair share of surprises. “The Lightning Thief” is one such performance that illustrates the band’s vast breadth in terms of musicianship. From a dramatic intro which teases with extravagant piano chords to heavy shredding rhythms, “The Lighting Thief” seems to convey multiple personalities within the 2 ½ minute performance. It is hard to keep up with Mad Duck on this track because just as quickly as fans ease into a moderate tempo they will be moved into an intense series of speedy meters and a frantic atmosphere. “The Lighting Thief” holds nothing back when it comes to magnetic vibrance.
“They Call Me Trinity”, a cover is another remarkable performance by Mad Duck. The rendition is rather theatrical in nature and robust with personality. “They Call Me Trinity” is poetic and illustrative lyrically speaking and captivating musically and Mad Duck’s interpretation is flawless. One of the best words that can be used to describe this particular rendition of the song is “electrifying”.
As the album nears its finish, the final track rounds out one stunning performance with perfection. “Never Die” offers a distinct contrast from the previous two tracks but brings the album full circle to the sounds that we can only guess are signature for Mad Duck. “Never Die” is a commanding performance that is both chaotic and calming. The track beams with addicting intensity while providing a soothing finish to one extreme voyage into sound.
Watch Mad Duck Never Die
Mad Duck gives a strong performance on ‘Braggart stories and dark poems’, the project is complex but enjoyable and will be appreciated by anyone who relishes in great rock music. The band uses a diverse range of elements to convey their signature style which does speak to early influences by both legendary and lesser known acts in metal and rock. The album is an excellent escape from reality but is strikingly real all on its own.

Not only have the members developed names for themselves individually around their homebase in Chile, but it is also indisputable that the band will leave a global footprint in music that will transcend time and geographic borders.
As we examine four tracks from Silos Camp, we reveal just a few of the distinct elements that are likely to echo among fans both new and old. It is not often that a single band can provide such a wide range of sounds in just short time, however Silos Camp does exactly that.
The first track that we had the opportunity to listen to is “Le petit train bleu”. Silos Camp’s performance delivers distinct folk sounds on this particular song. The song title which translates to “the little blue train” in French sheds light on the band’s global reach. The track offers listeners a diverse range of refreshing melodies and adoring harmonies. The song catchy and will resonate with fans of country and rock.
The following song, “Your Fate” is certain to be a fan favorite with its driving essence and retro nuances. “Your Fate” is a beautifully composed arrangement which consists of elegant chords, subtle percussion and soothing vocals. Silos Camp gives an epic performance, creating a luscious soundscape. The production is rich in emotive guitar riffs and moving bass.
Another track that strikes a chord is titled “The Perfect Way”. The song is reminiscent to the Beatles as it delivers a myriad of stylistic elements while fusing together classic and modern influences. Silos Camp however, have create their own lane through a contemporary lens. “The Perfect Way” is accented by an infectious score which is both dynamic and remarkable. The guitar-driven track also encompasses distinct piano chords and even at times edgy bass. Songwriting on “The Perfect Way” is poetic and powerful much like the previous cuts while also creating an experience that listeners can relate to with ease.
Finally, “Feel Dusk” offers a slightly different vibe with a rougher edge. Though the song provides its share of subtleties in terms of tempo, the shredding chords in the arrangement are unmistakable, as is the distinct clave rhythm which can be heard faintly in the background. “Feel Dusk” is a sultry sounding song with a rebellious rock flair. The song is arranged flawlessly as with the previous tracks and in addition, it delivers a rather cinematic feel. “Feel Dusk” was by far our favorite song, check out the band’s music video for the song below…

Orange County-based band Ravenscroft has pre-released two singles from their upcoming EP ‘Rebel’. The two latest music releases, “My Dearest One” and “The Chase” are timeless crowd-pleasers with a slightly nostalgic vibe. The renowned California band offers a small dose of the myriad of styles they are so famously recognized for as fans eagerly anticipate the release of their EP ‘Rebel’.
“My Dearest One” and “The Chase” present a highly-contrasted depiction of Ravenscroft’s ethos. While “My Dearest One” is tranquil and melodic, engulfed in fine chords and subtle waves, “The Chase” is intense, edgy, enraptured in driving rhythms, shredding riffs and high-octane vocals. The diverse range performed on both tracks makes Ravenscroft even more intriguing, taking reinvention to a whole new level.
The Ravenscroft experience has something for everyone though their style is described as alternative rock. Either way, the band’s music is a fantastic alternative to the commons sounds that seem to permeate the airwaves on any given day. If you enjoy rock ballads and 90s alternative, you will love “My Dearest One”. The song has emotive, a luxe musical accompaniment and moving rock vocals. Dramatic guitar riffs, inspiring bass and powerful percussion creates a dramatic landscape that is reminiscent to bands like Aerosmith and Guns N’Roses.
There is a noticeable juxtaposition between the release of the two singles, as “The Chase” takes on a completely different persona. The song is packed with vigorous energy and elicits a darker ambiance. “The Chase” is a heavy track with a distinct metal feel. While giving an epic vocal performance, and some seriously electrifying guitar riffs, the song is furiously emotional. If you enjoy the sounds of bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Metallica and Karnivool, you will love Ravenscroft “The Chase”.
Frequently bands are often recognized for their signature sounds, rarely deviating from what is most familiar to fans and if they do depart from what is most distinguishable, they are met with cold resistance, labeled “sellouts”, and later fall off into oblivion. “My Dearest One” and “The Chase” provide a multidimensional perspective on Ravenscroft, the band described by The Indie Music Artist as being, “mesmerizingly melody-driven” (The Indie Music Artist). Ravenscroft clearly is fearless in their approach to experiment with different sounds and the fact of the matter is they are able to reach a wide audience and close generational gaps with ease. With a Twitter fandom of over 41K strong, Ravenscroft is kicking in doors with a vengeance. Check out one of the band’s most recent videos “The Chase” below.

Indie-electronic duo MRCH recently released ‘Reactions’, their first full-length album. We caught up with the band’s Mickey Pangburn and Jesse Pangburn to get the dish on their project and plenty more.
We have to ask, what does MRCH stand for?
We fell in love with the word “march”, the notion of moving forward together – to the same beat. Turns out there are these “marching bands” all across the country though. People were having a hard time finding us online, so we just dropped the A.
How would you describe MRCH sound?
In-between. We’re really in this strange limbo of hybrid electronic music. We’re not polished enough for pop, not lo-fi enough for garage… we pair electric guitar and acoustic drums with both analogue and digital synths/ ableton live and triggers and care about the lyrics. We’re always more ruckus live than on our recordings. We’ve been asked to play with artists ranging from hip-hop to indie rock to power pop. If someone asks us what our sound is, we invite them to a show.
How did you come up with the concept for your latest music video “My Mistake”?
It’s a song penned in the middle of a defeatist moment. We wanted the video to capture the solitude aspect of the track without being totally depressing. Space has an obvious isolation factor, but it’s also a beautiful, hopeful unknown. Space travel is such a futuristic concept, but we used mostly vintage public domain footage from NASA. It’s kind of a nod to the past while moving forward. We tried to tie all that together.
Compared to some of your other productions such as “Glitter McQueen” and “Highway Drivin”, “My Mistake” has a different vibe, what’s that all about?
In terms of video – we wanted to just go simpler for a minute. In terms of music, these songs were written at starkly different times. Highway Drivin’ was co-written with an awesome musician Joel Marquard. It was our first time trying to capture some gritty synth. Glitter McQueen was the first song we recorded/ produced/ mixed all on our own. We were super ambitious and optimistic about it. My Mistake was penned in the midst of a bunch of personal family turmoil (which could account for its morose nature) and an equally depressing political climate. I just didn’t feel up to writing something happy. I feel a lot more positive lately though – so who knows what’s next! We’ve really just been learning as we go.
What are some of the inspirations behind MRCH music?
So scattered! Cocteau Twins, New Order, Metric, Phantogram, St. Vincent.
Are there any other musicians that have been influential behind developing the band’s sound?
Of course. So many. It’s hard to even pick just a few. Jesse loves Kendrick Lamar and digging into hip hop production. I adore Grimes.
MRCH is a relatively new collaboration having come together in 2015, what brought each half of the duo to this current point?
We were in another band for almost three years prior to MRCH. There were five of us, it was hard to keep everyone on the same page. It wasn’t necessarily the right path for everyone as far as career goes either. Jesse and I couldn’t imagine doing anything other than making music. We’ve collaborated and worked alongside a few awesome musician friends along the way, but at the end of it all the two of us are still here. Still writing, still playing and hoping the right mix of hard work (and maybe finding the right people to team up with) will pay off.
Some of your tracks have had some major exposure through popular network TV Shows, how important do you think licensing is to your brand?
We feel like our “brand” is still incredibly small. However, licensing has been such a huge thing for us in terms of pursuing music full time. These shows have funded most of what we’ve done over the past year, and for a completely independent DIY band like us – that means the world. Plus it’s really cool to hear a song you wrote in collaboration with someone else’s art on screen. On top of it all, our agents are really all about us making the music we want to make. They try to find the right places for our songs rather than us trying to write songs in a specific way. We’re really grateful for that.
Reactions, your first full-length album was just released last month, can you share with us some of your favorite moments of putting together this project?
Our favorite moments were always the tiny little victories. Like nailing one tone on a bass line, or a guitar feeding back at the perfect moment while tracking. At the risk of being redundant, we’re just learning as we go…. so every time something turned out remotely how we hoped it would along the way, we had mini celebrations.
If there were one thing that you hope fans walk away from Reactions with, what would it be?
Everybody has crap days. You’re not alone. Some of these songs were written when I was at my worst, some when I was feeling a little more optimistic. At the bottom of it was an underlying feeling of isolation. So my goal now is to not shrink away from the hard stuff and not let it completely consume me. Make room for kindness – to show a little more kindness to each other and ourselves. Let people in.
If a new fan were to just discover MRCH, where should they start to get the best first impression of your sound and style?
Come to a show!Electronic music can sometimes seem a little sterile, dehumanized almost. We love playing live because it shows an organic side to it.
What has changed most about electronic music and how it reaches audiences since you both got started?
Streaming has taken over even more. It’s been the thing since we started, but it’s gotten so huge! Also, licensing is more important than ever. Electronic bands are being tapped to score shows & films too. It’s a whole other means of reaching audiences & collaborating with artists of different mediums. We think these are good changes.
Can we expect any tours in the near future?
We’re going to be in LA quite a bit over the next couple of months. Beyond that we’re currently working on booking! Doing it ourselves equals about a million emails and a ton of time away from writing/ rehearsing, so dates are coming soon (just a little slower than we wish!)
From 2015 until now, what has been the band’s most proudest moment?
We’ve had a couple really encouraging moments. Some good reviews from critics we respect, some opportunities to open the biggest shows we’ve ever played. But, the proudest moment was probably this spring. We were playing in Portland. We’ve been there a few times. (The first time for an audience of about 10 people)… So, this was maybe our 4th time through. We were at Holocene with some great bands. It was before our set. A good sized crowd. The band before us was sooo good. There was this guy up in the front dancing so hard. He had Footloose-worthy moves. I tapped my friend to my side and said “My goal is to have a guy come out to a gig THAT stoked for MRCH”… Right then the guy does a 180 revealing his old MRCH tee from a previous tour. I was like “We’ve made it”… 🙂
Looking to the future, how do you predict electronic music will evolve?
We think people won’t feel so boxed in. Genres are bleeding into one another already. It’s great because it’ll let the music speak for itself. You can like something based solely on how it sounds rather than how you think it should sound because it’s lumped into a particular group.
What sets MRCH apart from other acts currently breaking ground in the genre?
We’re just different. We think there are so many amazing bands coming up in the genre. Everyone is kind of doing there own thing. As we look out at who we could possibly play with while booking, we constantly find ourselves in the camp of “we’re not a perfect fit, but maybe there’s enough crossover to make sense”. We just play what we like and hope there are some people out there who might like it too. We’ve found quite a few so far, so we’re hopeful we’ll find some more.

NYC-based artist EsZ recently released a 6-song EP ‘If You Didn’t Get this Message, Call Me’. The project is certain to deliver the distinct sounds that EsZ fans are familiar with, which consists of a fusion of mellow instrumentals, gritty lyrics, and thought-provoking lyrical content. EsZ showcases his diverse skill-set when it comes to being an avant garde hip-hop artist performing within a new soundscape.
Listeners will be introduced to “Woke Up, Hands High” the premier track on the EP and they will not be disappointed. EsZ performs with a one-of-a-kind cadence that neophytes will relish along with his youthful tone of voice. EsZ delivers freshly-cut bars which are accentuated by soulful female vocals drifting in and out of the track in the background. The story-telling on the “Woke Up, Hands High” is not only sincere but entertaining as the listeners. Fans cannot help but to understand that EsZ is a progressive artist that is well beyond his years in performance.
The follow-on track on ‘If You Didn’t Get This Message, Call Me’, is “Saucy” a classic EsZ style track adorned with salacious lyrics and ironic metaphors. This particular track however, does have a throwback screwed-up vibe that we haven’t really heard since the early 2000s while overall appealing to a current ear. EsZ is incredibly detailed in his execution of bars and never misses the mark on delivering a catchy hook. “Saucy” is the perfect combination of grime, sensuality and a little bit of the streets mixed with a dirty club feel.
EsZ switches things up with “Going Under” which introduces a more underground sound. Lyrically, the track is poetic in nature, with a very pensive vibration. Production on “Going Under” is unblemished much like the previous tracks, however it has a simple and clean vibe that is primarily bass-driven with a synth-infused flair. “Going Under” is a minimalist performance with an infectious mist of vapor.
Next on the playlist is “We Danced For, Dazed All Summer”, a down-tempo mix with a recognizable Latin zest. EsZ takes listeners into his virtual domain while illustrating a series of mind-bending scenarios using descriptive lyrics and evoking colorful visuals through word. “We Danced For, Dazed All Summer” is categorically a chilled-out track with a lazy vibe. The track performs like a sweltering hot day at the beach somewhere on a tropical island. Fans will be in for a treat as this track takes a surprising twist, but we won’t divulge all of the deets so that you can listen for your self.
“If You Didn’t Get This Message, Call Me” starts to wind down with “To Live the Good Life”, another powerful performance by EsZ who sheds some light into what he calls Erron’s Attic, which we can only suggest would be considered a glimpse into his universe. “To Live the Good Life” is a smokey track that rests heavy on the mind. Juxtaposed with the title itself, there is an emotional presence that can be experienced while absorbing the words penned on the track leaving fans to wonder, what’s really going on up in Erron’s Attic?
What could be considered as one of the most polished performances of 2017, EsZ leaves fans with “Touching Base/Your Colors” a loungy tune with a subtle rebellious energy. The Brooklyn-based artist shares a myriad of experiences over this piano-infused track that vary from aspirational to painful with a twinge of heartbreak and inevitable healing.
EsZ is a revolutionary artist that leaves it all on the stage with every single performance. Music fans who are looking for substance and content that is succinct will not be disappointed as there are few mainstream artists today that are capable of delivering more than a catchy beat and incoherent expressions of mediocrity. EsZ happens to be the complete opposite. Falling more along the lines of hip-hop artists such as Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole to name just a few, EsZ has developed a credible game that is to be respected in terms of his artistic prowess. Not only is he able to deliver meaningful flows but his sound undoubtedly appeals to the masses as observed through his ever-growing fan base from around the world.
EsZ, though a young artist is wise beyond his years and this is evident in his intricate story-telling. He is truly a unique and multi-faceted artist that introduces a fresh perspective on life in the new millennium.
EsZ is the epitome of art and culture. Hailing from the hip-hop hub of the universe, New York City, Erron is a true contemporary. He is a visual artist as well as a performing artist, fusing his passion together to leave his mark on this world. By nature, Erron is a creative who is known for not only his strikingly visual art but his ability to deliver clever rhymes through music. His music has been covered in popular publications such as Underground Hip Hop and he has a growing legion of fans from across the world. “If You Didn’t Get This Message, Call Me” is the latest release by EsZ and it is available for your digital shopping pleasure on iTunes and Spotify.

Not too long ago the girls at G&S reviewed “Never Woulda Letcha” the latest release by singer and songwriter Taylor Grey. We recently caught up with Taylor to get the scoop on her latest project and more, check out the interview below.
Top 3 songs on my playlist right now are…?
Cigarette Daydreams – Cage the Elephant
Soap – Fox Wilde
Superficial Love – Ruth B.
Most memorable experience while on tour was…?
The most memorable experiences will always be being on stage and seeing people sing my lyrics along with me – it’s a really magical experience.
Craziest thing a fan has ever done…?
Once a fan followed me and my band from the show venue to In’n’Out. The crazy thing was that we got lost on the way, so we went on two freeways and several random streets, but she stuck with us the whole way. She didn’t even come in to say hi.
Never leave home without…?
My phone or lip gloss
Before going on stage I…?
I have this weird habit where I have to sing a little bit, even just a chorus, of every song I sing in my set.
My dream collaboration would be…?
Ed Sheeran, hands down.
If there were three words to describe your sound, what would it be?
Vibey Space Pop
Can you give us some idea of what inspires you as a songwriter and artist?
My experiences and experiences of those close to me. I song write to story-tell, and I tell stories that are sometimes direct life experiences I have had or they’re sometimes narratives I craft based on a plethora of experiences and emotions that are true to me.
Your highly-anticipated album set to release this spring is called Space Case, how did you come up with such a unique name for your project?
Space Case is actually the title of one of the song’s on the album and the name really stood out to me. I was drawn to it as the album title because I thought it was unique, but also because the song, “Space Case,” really encompasses the essence of this album for me. It’s about a girl who is a little out there – with her head not even just in the clouds, but in outer space – who just has big dreams and is working to actualize them.
Fans recently got a chance to experience the first single from the album “Never Woulda Letcha” and judging by the response from your fans it seems like a hit! What do you feel goes into creating a song that resonates with listeners?
I think being honest in your emotions is crucial. Whether I am writing a heavy Pop song like “Never Woulda Letcha” or a more alternative song like some in “Space Case,” I believe in telling true emotions and stories. I’m never going to create stories that I think people want to hear – I like writing about unconventional things, like having the female voice aka my voice being the one taking care of a heartbroken boy or wanting someone to like you even though you have no intention of liking them back. I like the not-so love story.
Many times artists feel like they are called to perform in some aspect, do you recall the moment when you discovered that this was the path you wanted to follow?
I started musical theater when I was really young because I was a shy kid and my mom wanted to help me come out of my shell. Because I was so young, I can’t remember an exact light-bulb moment, but the stage has always felt like home to me. When I went on tour last summer however, and I was singing my own songs on stage, I felt this immense feeling of happiness where I said to myself “I never want to stop doing this.”
What do you hope that your fans, new and old, will take away after hearing Space Case?
I hope people listening feel like they can see themselves in my songs. I hope that they can relate to at least one song and feel like someone else gets it, that they aren’t alone. I have songs like “Never Woulda Letcha” that are upbeat and Pop for people who gravitate towards that. But I also have songs that I’ve written while crying on bedroom floor heartbroken. There is a wide spectrum which I loved creating because as I songwriter I was given the freedom to write what I felt when I felt it.
The music industry has changed a great deal over the last decade and to be honest much of the music that is out there sounds similar; as a young artist how do you distinguish yourself from other performers?
I think it’s easy to fall into the trap of trying too hard to be different or distinguish yourself. I will always stay true to myself in the moment. I change everyday and I grow, and my songs reflect. Something that distinguishes me is that I will never feel the need to fit a musical box, per se, I don’t care to be labeled as Pop or Alternative or Singer-Songwriter. I love writing the songs that feel right to me in the moment. Also, I’m still in school!
We understand that you are attending college at Stanford University and are currently a sophomore; that is awesome! How do you juggle the demands of higher education at such a prestigious university with being a celebrity?
I’m still learning how to balance the two! I’ve had to make sacrifices in both facets of my life, but it has been worth it. I’m very lucky to have a very supportive family and team around me helping me do what I love.
So your album Space Case is due to release in Spring, please share with us some of your feelings and thoughts that go through your mind when a project of such a large magnitude is finally complete?
I’m not going to lie, I am so excited and restless for the album to be released. This will be the first body of new work I’ve released with songs I have written since starting college, so it’s big for me! I cannot wait for people to hear it!
Thanks for taking some time out of your busy schedule to chat it up with G&S Taylor, please let us know how can fans keep up to date with what is happening in the world of Taylor Grey music?
Of course, thank you so much! I’m always on my Instagram and twitter which are both @iamtaylorgrey and there’s my website which is taylorgreymusic.com.

Vegas-based rap and producer duo Jun & Carter might be only 16 and 17 years old but they are ahead of their time and taking their music as serious as any rap veteran. Casting Sin City in a different light, Jun & Carter recently released their celebratory track “No One Like Us”. The track release comes right on the heels of the duo’s birthdays which are in May (the 1st and 16th respectively). Despite the number of aspiring rappers dropping music on any given day, there is little deviation that can be found in the production styles, lyrical content, and overall delivery of hip-hop music in general. While this may simply be a byproduct of the mainstream popularization of the genre, there are always some artists out in the music space looking to differentiate themselves from all of the rest. Sometimes they are well-received and often, if they stray too far from the familiar sounds that are hot at the moment, they are not. We suspect that Jun & Carter will not fall into this trap. Today, teen artists have access to all types of technology and they are empowered to create music that rival industry veterans and thanks to how music marketing and the industry overall has evolved, they are doing it on their own terms.
Although since its inception, many people believed that hip-hop would eventually die, the upcoming crop of aspiring artists have proven that hip-hop culture and rap itself will continue to live on. Artists like Jun & Carter have proven that hip-hop continues to touch a number of people of all ages, genders, backgrounds, ethnicities, and places around the world. If you don’t believe us, you can check out their latest track “No One Like Us” which has garnered over 3.2M hits on the popular music player Soundcloud.
“No One Like Us” is not unlike any other rap track out there. It consists of the basic conventions needed to develop a decent head-nodding mix. The track will give listeners a lazy hip hop beat with dark bass, eerie melodies, gritty bars, chant-easy hook and boasting metaphors which illustrate how much Better Jun & Carter are compared to the next contender, your basic battle-style rap. The point of difference here will be found in the perspective that the boys deliver which happens to be from that of the 702. Since typically we are exposed to rap artists from places like New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, and places like Philly, it’s not too often that we can get a good glimpse into the sounds that are coming out of Vegas in the mainstream. The boys do deliver a slight underground feel, however the track is produced to a high level of quality in terms of sound and beyond their ability to spit some witty bars, the duo actually adds in some pretty solid harmonies on the vocal side. Check out Jun & Carter perform “No One Like Us”, which is now streaming on Soundcloud.

Brooklyn-based indie artist Samira recently released her latest song ‘Home’ from her 1st album ‘Samira & The Wind’. Music fans should take note, if you haven’t been blessed with the opportunity to hear Samira’s music, you are certainly in for a pleasant surprise. To be honest, we haven’t been this excited about discovering an artist since Natalie Imbruglia was “Torn”, Eminem borrowed Dido’s ‘Thank You’ for his record ‘Stan’, and Adele gave us ‘Someone Like You’. While we still mourn the 90s and hold on tightly to the few artists of today that deliver legitimate talent versus a pop product packaged for the masses, Samira is a welcome change and breath of fresh air.
‘Home’ is a song that brings perfection to the listener from fade-in to fade-out both instrumentally and vocally. The musical score for the track has a very laid-back energy, delicate melodies and raw folk feel. Instrumentals slowly build from what initially appears to be an uncomplicated set of scales to a more complex series of harmonious chords that are interwoven beautifully with Samira’s delightful vocals. The balance between the music and their vocals are appropriate where one does not over power the other but instead both create a harmonious frequency.
Samira as a vocalist, delivers a very polished performance. Her voice is soft, soothing and distinct in quality. She demonstrates a wide range of chords and approaches the song with personality and style. Samira has a youthful sound but offers a sophisticated style that is well beyond her years. The depth of her vocal skills are very much reminiscent to early Joss Stone and Adele though Samira sings in a higher pitch.
‘Home’ introduces thought-provoking lyrical content which is most unusual to find today in the mainstream. Meaningful songs are few and far between as music continues to morph into various forms, as new genres emerge and fuse together to create a hybridization of sounds that were once more recognizable. Samira illustrates a story through intricate songwriting that will speak to individuals who are on another level, those people who have no issues expressing feelings including those that are actually sad. In a world where everything is as perfect as the next selfie, a listening experience like ‘Home’ is a reawakening of sorts.
If you are in search of some emotional tracks that give you the feels, then Samira’s latest music release is likely to hit very close to home, no pun intended. We appreciated the opportunity to experience true musicianship and clever artistry, and feel you should take the opportunity to do exactly the same. Listen to Samira’s latest release ‘Home’.
Originally from Los Angeles, Samira now calls Brooklyn, NY home. Samira got her start when she was asked to demo a song for singer then rising artist Lorde by her step-father who is a composer for film, TV, and commercials. Samira’s vocals were included on The Hunger Games Catching Fire film track “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”. You can also hear Samria’s voice on the new trailer for Resident Evil 7 VR game. In addition to lending her vocals for these world-famous projects, Samira co-wrote and performed on “Cateura-Vamos a Soñar” which was featured in the documentary film ‘Landfill Harmonic’. In 2016, the song was a lead contender for the Oscars. Samira performs with her own band Samira and The Wind but also has performed alongside Landfill Harmonic Trinity Church, with folk singer Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul, and Mary). ‘Home’ is the newest release from her recent album “Samira & The Wind”.

If you are looking to turn up, then the latest release by UK rap artist Sharpey “So Sexy” ft. SN1 Pablo is serving up some fresh-cut vibes with a throwback spin. “So Sexy” has all of the modern conventions of a mainstream cross-over hit. The track delivers pop-infused melodies that are reminiscent to Ryan Leslie’s production on Cassie’s 2006 “Me & U” while invoking a familiar energy found on the more recent collaboration between Chris Brown and Tyga on “Ayo” and giving off a little urban grime as heard on tracks by Georgia-based hip hop group Migos.
“So Sexy” is likely to appeal to a youthful audience that appreciates getting lit versus delving into a cavernous realm of lyrical content. If anything, modern popular music has taught us that a catchy beat and uncomplicated lyrics are often the best recipe to reach the masses and liven up the scene when life gets a little bit too heavy. Sharpey’s song is distinctly a party track highly-suited for the club, urban and top40 air play.
Make it Rain…
Overall, “So Sexy” is an upbeat song with playful lyrics discussing the archetypal rapper lifestyle of hitting up the studio, hanging out at strip clubs getting lap dances, downing drinks, passing shots and promiscuity. Strippers and poll dancers around the globe will appreciate the affectionate musing as Sharpey croons, “She is so sexy, I’m like look where them legs be…If I’m coming to your house, I’m not leaving til next week”.
As for the rest of basic chicks and good girls not cool enough to have songs written about them, they might be left in an unexpected thirst-trap, aspiring to take the stage and swing it for daddy in exchange for the jet-set life and their own radio-friendly odes to glam. Until then, they should positively add this track to their personal playlist as it is the perfect start to kick off girls’ night out while taking selfies in their newest $20 bodycon dresses. After all, who doesn’t love a song that inspires yet another drunken night on the dance floor with random guys that still live at home?! Hello! A girl’s gotta live no doubt, so why not live vicariously through Sharpey’s latest track.
Listen to the entire song “So Sexy” performed by Sharpey ft. SN1 Pablo on Soundcloud
Sharpey got his start in music at the young age of 13 as a producer. After the untimely passing of his Nana he found a much needed respite upon discovering his passion. Having received positive feedback from the public, Sharpey decided to take his writing and producing to the next level, connecting with others in a relatable way.
Still, at the young age of 26, Sharpey’s career as an artist has advanced as his style has matured. As a result, the UK artist has continued to put out new music and tour for fans. In addition to his studio endeavors, Sharpey is filming for Generation Rap, a TV show due to release in the summer of 2017 where he travels to various studios in the UK.
Pop fans are in for some fresh new vibes from singer, songwriter and musician Taylor Grey who recently released the first single “Never Woulda Letcha” from her debut studio album Space Case. The Northern California native draws pop music lovers in with her smooth vocals and dynamic energy. “Never Woulda Letcha” is a distinctly infectious tune wrapped in lighthearted melodies and festive dance rhythms. The song opens up with delicate acoustic chords and quickly morphs into a playful series of loveable vocals not heard since Selena Gomez chucked up the deuces to the Disney Channel and hit the Top40.
“Never Woulda Letcha” is shamelessly girly, unapologetically empowering and as carefree as any modern young woman might be in 2017. Joining a legion of strong female vocalists and songwriters taking the music industry by storm, Taylor Grey is carving out her own style. If you enjoy the styles of singers and songwriters such as Julia Michaels, Daya and Alessia Cara, you will totally dig the sounds of Taylor Grey.

“NEVER WOULDA LETCHA is about that friend you have a secret crush on. You’ve known each other forever, you’ve always been “just friends,” but you always wanted something more. The feeling of this song is something I believe most people can relate to. Personally, I always love listening to music that reflects my emotions, so hopefully this song can be that for someone. And a fun song to dance too, as well!” – Taylor Grey

Without a doubt you will not want to “let this one pass you by” as the song’s lyrics suggest. “Capture The Moment” is fun, inspiring and refreshingly uplifting.
“Capture The Moment” is robust with highly synthesized electronic elements, funky guitar riffs, rolling drums and intoxicating bass rhythms. The track is a dynamic expression of various electronic genres with a dash of soul. While the songwriting is catchy and uncomplicated, the vocals are executed in a peerless manner. The music consists of complex layers, sweeping transitions and cascading waves of modern sound.
What is most fascinating about The APX? The talented duo fuses together elements of the past with styles of the present to deliver a remarkably flawless performance. There are moments during the song that are reminiscent to 80s freestyle and performers such as Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, Starpoint, and many others. “Capture The Moment” is the type of song that crosses generational boundaries and outlasts the ages because it is simply that timeless.
Whether you fancy Synthpop, Funk, Disco, or Deep House grooves, you will fully embrace the sounds of The APX and their latest release “Capture The Moment”. If two worlds were to collide, The APX might fall somewhere between Tiesto and Daft Punk, however the collective has created their own unique sound that won’t soon be duplicated.

Husband and wife duo Dee Rhodes and Erika Rhodes put together an electronic alter-ego project now known as The APX. Though the collaboration is a new undertaking for the pair, neither artist is a stranger to the music industry. The APX went into launch mode following the culmination of a successful private event band known as “The After Party Experience”.
Before The APX, power couple Dee and Erika Rhodes were leaving their mark on the industry. Erika performed at Barack Obama’s Presidential Inauguration and opened up for pop icon Mariah Carey. Having shared the stage with greats such as Pat Benatar, Floetry, and Diana Ross, Erika Rhodes is known for having a versatile vocal range and diverse repertoire crossing over several genres ranging from rock to R&B.
Dee is also an established musician that has performed on the popular shows such as ‘Being Mary Jane’ and ‘Single Ladies’. Dee performed for industry legend Stevie Wonder and celebrities such as Vivica Fox and Usher at the young age of 12. Gaining industry experience as a live music promoter in Atlanta, Dee has put his skills to work in booking concert tours for The APX.
The group released “Capture The Moment” initially to “test the waters”. Since the song release in January 2016, the team has expanded on their breadth and zoned in on refining their distinct sound which is a fusion of Nu Disco, Electro Funk and Synthwave. The APX hopes to take a myriad of influences including 80s music and “fuse them into a new era” according to the band. The duo accomplishes this by incorporating a 50/50 split of DJs and producers and live performers much like Chromeo, Capital Cities, and others.
The APX recently remixed several of their live performances to illustrate what fans might expect at a live show. Live performance videos have been a source of success for the creative project, having allowed the group to grow their fan base exponentially while receiving kudos from world-renowned artists such as Teddy Riley, Dave 1 of Chromeo, Alex Frankel of Holy Ghost, Nick Littlemore, Empire of the Sun, Dam Funk, Native Instruments and many others. Dee and Erika describes The APX sound as “creating a galactic funky atmosphere using synths, sax, and vocals”.
The APX is set to release another single titled “Lose Yourself to the Groove” on April 28th, 2017 and the groups debut EP will be released on May 22nd, 2017.

We checked in with DJ and Producer Ricardo Del Rio about his latest project The Remix Album. Get the details in our interview below.
How long have you been performing?
I started as a vinyl records DJ in my country when I was 13.
Can you share with us a little bit about how you got your start in music?
I always loved American music like party songs by House of Pain, I tried learning these song lyrics.
As an artist who has traveled all over the world, where are some of your favorite cities to play?
I studied live percussion very early and have had great opportunity to perform in South Beach Miami which is my favorite city in the states.
What would you say is the greatest difference between performing in front of a live audience and being inside of a studio?
The energy you get from the people is so fun when I play live percussions during house and tribal arrangements the movement to dance it’s crazy.
What inspired your latest single release “For Her”?
Initially I was in Mexico and like I said producing music I created these sounds on reason with many new plugins and was going through some very emotional times with a young lady because I travel alot and wanted to show her in my music I appreciated so much the time we spent together and of course Omar being very good with english language I think his voice is incredible so I sent him the idea, concept and explained to him since my native language is Italian to speak I mean rap very clear and make it fun so he did a good job on the original version but I love the remix much more because I recorded his voice and spent many hours on the synths the ambience of the song to make it more perfect.
You have an entire album out now, titled “The Remix Album”, what are some of your favorite moments on the project?
We recorded the song For Her Remix in Miami and had a great week, eating out at different restaurants, getting to know the lyrics more. Listening on different monitors and really dissecting the sounds of Elan Noelle she is an amazing singer I want to meet her one day the label is very independent and we still strive to be very big not only in the states but in UK Spain all over the world.
We understand that you are a producer and also a DJ as well as a percussionist, are there any other collaborations on your album that fans can expect?

If there were three words that you could use to describe your sound, what would they be?
Electro, house, club.
Who are some of your music inspirations?
David Guetta, Jim Breese.
Are there any other artists that you hope to work with in the future?
Yes I would like to do more remixes for labels who have good talent.

I have so much new house music in my iTunes i listen to.
2018 is about to wrap up, do you have an upcoming shows or projects that fans should be looking out for in the coming year?

You discovered music at a young age, how did that come about?
I think I did how most people discovered music which was through my parents. My parents aren’t actually musical though but through friends they have who are musicians was most likely my first introduction to playing music. My earliest memories are family friends playing guitar and singing songs when they would come around and I also remember getting my first guitar when I was about 3 from my Uncle and Aunty (which I still own today) which would have prompted a love for playing the guitar.
Who were some of your greatest music influences between then and now?
As I’ve gotten older my musical influences have expanded greatly as a lot of people do and I listen to so many different styles now which is helps me write and create the music that I love. Initially when I first started playing guitar I was a big fan of AC/DC, The Living End, and pretty much a lot of the old rock ‘n roll guitar driven music which helped me develop some of the key skills with playing guitar in general. Throughout my teens I went through stages listening to genres like Rock ‘a Billy, Fusion music, and then kind of made my way around to listening to a lot of Pop songs throughout the decades from The Beatles to Michael Jackson and Prince.
“be with me” is your latest song release, what made you decide to release this particular song for your fans?
‘be with me’ just felt like the right song to release at this stage which basically incorporates a wide range of my influences and sounds I love to hear in songs. I felt it had the right mix of genres to allow me to follow it with a wide range of options for future releases and gives a good insight to the type of music I like making and will be releasing in the near future.
How hard is it to decide which songs you want to put out?
Before I really think about which tracks I want to release it seems to be difficult at first, but after going through and playing the songs with the guys in my band and listening to the demos it becomes pretty clear which song I want to release at that time. As I’m constantly writing new songs it almost becomes easier because it shows a progression of the musical journey and makes me excited to eventually put a second E.P and eventually an Album together with a bunch of the songs I’ve written over the years.
We noticed, the title of your track looks a little different, why did you decide to go with the lowercase letters? Is there a story to it?
The lowercase letters weren’t really a discussed element when releasing the song. When I was doing the artwork for the song the lowercase letters just seemed to fit the aesthetic a bit better. I asked my youngest sister who has a good eye for that sort of thing and suggested to keep it in lowercase and pretty much just went from there. It also can make it stand out a bit with is never a bad thing.
So far, your video for “be with me” has over 6K plays in less than two weeks on YouTube, how does this make you feel?
I’m extremely grateful for the support so far for the video and the song and especially to all the people who have left nice comments which is always cool to see. But in saying that, I try not to take too much notice in regard to plays, streams and buys. I feel it can potentially change how I write and release music to try and just get numbers on YouTube or Spotify if I get really caught up with all that stuff, which I want to just release the most honest music and content I can. None the less I’m so thankful for the support and kind messages people have sent me about the track which lets me know that people are enjoying my music, which only motivates me even further.
How has social media impacted your approach to getting music to your fans?
Social media is such a weird thing for me, because I’ve never really been an avid user of it, but it is really necessary especially in today’s society to allow people to discover your music. It’s required an approach to see how other musicians use it, then for me to take elements of that and implement it when releasing my own songs. It’s definitely a great tool for musicians to allow them to be discovered, but because of how accessible it is to everyone, in a sense it can be hard to be found as so many people use it to promote their music. It’s about trying to allow the best platform for people to be able to discover my music and hopefully they enjoy it and jump on board.
How did you come up with the concept for the music video for “be with me”?
I’ve had the concept floating around for a while, and ‘be with me’ felt like it was the right song to
use it for. I’ve always really enjoyed music videos where the band is just hanging out and mucking around because there’s always something really real and raw about it. So, what you see in the clip is the guys and I just having fun and enjoying playing music together.
You have worked with some major players in the music industry, is there anyone else that you would hope to collaborate with in the future?
My list would be endless, but I’d love to travel overseas and work with a bunch of international bands and write some songs and produce with them. I think it would be so fun and would be a great platform to help get my music across to more people, especially outside of Australia. Bands like Catfish and the Bottlemen and The Aces to list a few would be awesome to work on songs with.
We understand that you have many music influences across the eras, what’s in your personal playlist right now?
At the moment a lot of Queen is being played around the house especially after the release of the new movie. My sisters have jumped on board with their music which is a really cool thing and has allowed them to discover a lot more music from that era and even for myself too which has been fun. I’ve also been really into a lot of 80’s pop recently from bands like Toto, Michael Jackson and INXS. Also I mentioned them earlier, but I discovered a band called The Aces who have really cool and fun pop songs that reminisce some of the sounds from the 80s so I’m really digging them at the moment.
If there is one thing that you hope fans will take away from your latest track release, what do you hope it will be?
I hope people will begin to see what we are all about and hopefully create some interest for our future releases. It’s really just about showing the broad genre that we can fit into and hopefully people hear something that they like and will stick around for new songs that are on the way.
2018 is coming to a fast end, can we expect any other projects from IV DANTE this year?
We are recording our next single at the moment which I can’t wait for people to hear, which will show a more of a ‘rock’ element compared to ‘be with me’ but definitely complements it nicely. We’re hoping to release that early in the new year and aiming for a big 2019 with a ton of new music and shows to come.
What is next on the horizon for IV DANTE?
We have a couple of shows coming up in December to finish the year off then it’s back in the studio to keep recording more songs and organising more releases. Our aim is to play a bunch of shows next year and try to get our name out there more in the live scene and hopefully jump on some cool support slots throughout, so it’s definitely exciting times for us.
