Vegas-Based Rap Duo Jun & Carter Release “No One Like Us”

Jun and Carter

Vegas-based rap and producer duo Jun & Carter might be only 16 and 17 years old but they are ahead of their time and taking their music as serious as any rap veteran. Casting Sin City in a different light, Jun & Carter recently released their celebratory track “No One Like Us”. The track release comes right on the heels of the duo’s birthdays which are in May (the 1st and 16th respectively). Despite the number of aspiring rappers dropping music on any given day, there is little deviation that can be found in the production styles, lyrical content, and overall delivery of hip-hop music in general. While this may simply be a byproduct of the mainstream popularization of the genre, there are always some artists out in the music space looking to differentiate themselves from all of the rest. Sometimes they are well-received and often, if they stray too far from the familiar sounds that are hot at the moment, they are not. We suspect that Jun & Carter will not fall into this trap. Today, teen artists have access to all types of technology and they are empowered to create music that rival industry veterans and thanks to how music marketing and the industry overall has evolved, they are doing it on their own terms.

Although since its inception, many people believed that hip-hop would eventually die, the upcoming crop of aspiring artists have proven that hip-hop culture and rap itself will continue to live on. Artists like Jun & Carter have proven that hip-hop continues to touch a number of people of all ages, genders, backgrounds, ethnicities, and places around the world. If you don’t believe us, you can check out their latest track “No One Like Us” which has garnered over 3.2M hits on the popular music player Soundcloud.

“No One Like Us” is not unlike any other rap track out there. It consists of the basic conventions needed to develop a decent head-nodding mix. The track will give listeners a lazy hip hop beat with dark bass, eerie melodies, gritty bars, chant-easy hook and boasting metaphors which illustrate how much Better Jun & Carter are compared to the next contender, your basic battle-style rap. The point of difference here will be found in the perspective that the boys deliver which happens to be from that of the 702. Since typically we are exposed to rap artists from places like New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, and places like Philly, it’s not too often that we can get a good glimpse into the sounds that are coming out of Vegas in the mainstream. The boys do deliver a slight underground feel, however the track is produced to a high level of quality in terms of sound and beyond their ability to spit some witty bars, the duo actually adds in some pretty solid harmonies on the vocal side. Check out Jun & Carter perform “No One Like Us”, which is now streaming on Soundcloud.
