Behind the Sound with Ibaadat

How was Ibaadat formed and why did you both decide to collaborate with each other?

I was passionate for music since childhood and so was Aman We started learning music from our school days and when we got into our respective colleges, we started participating in various inter college singing competitions. From those competitions we started getting positive feedback from many people and we did won many prizes together. Passion towards music made us to learn about it more and I always wanted music as my career. Also, we wanted to be known as independent group of musicians. so we decided to bring that dream into action.
Since I and other band members worship music with our heart and soul we named the band ‘Ibaadat’. It’s an Urdu word, meaning worship and Selfless Love, since we wanted the word to be very pure and Sufi.

Can you give us some insights into your musical backgrounds?

We both don’t have any family musical backgrounds, no one has ever imagined that we will choose music as our career option. I never took music lightly. I don’t know from where this passion came but I always wanted to be an expert in d field of music be it a singer or a Music Director. We used to save pennies out of my pocket money to give fees of music classes.

Later I learned guitar from Mr. Prakash Gaur while Aman is blessed with a soulful voice & was taught by his Mother who herself is a singer, then we joined Agra Gharana & Patiala Gharana respectively, for polishing & enhancing our skills to next level.

Who are some of your artistic and musical influences?

We are highly influenced by different Genres, I am much more into Folk ,Sufi, classical & Rock Genre and Aman is more into Ghazals, Romantic, Indie & Pop music. We both are highly inspired by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahab, Master Saleem, Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan, Papon, Lucky Ali.

What would you say are the most distinct elements about your sound?

I think “Feel”. Yes, that’s what our main aim to deliver our audience. You will always find that “feel” in our song. If you can’t understand Hindi but if you have good melody sense then you will surely enjoy our music.

How do you come up with a concept for a record?

Like we wanted to produce something blissful. So when I composed this song and write Lyrics with him, the song immediately got stuck to our heart and we were smiling each other with a same thought in Mind. It’s hard to say too much about what this sounds like, because it’ll sound a little different to everybody. But I think you could agree that it has a certain sweetness with pain too. And that is unique. To me, I think it’s a bit about that time when many of us face these situations. maybe some have felt loss, struggle and love towards one’s beloved.

Can you take us through your songwriting and composition processes?

Usually, We compose the melody first and then we put words into it. I compose all the songs initially and Aman helps me with the ideas and within maximum 5 minutes we make our song and vision about it. For this song specifically, we took time to write lyrics, but we composed our song very quickly. When you are in particular feel it comes naturally from your heart and you don’t take so much time for it.

What would you consider to be the most challenging part about bringing awareness to your music?

In India, People are heavily obsessed with Bollywood music, so their source to get aware about new music is Bollywood most probably. So we find difficulty to promote our music in the already occupied market by Bollywood but good news is that things are getting changed now and Indie bands are getting lot of exposure from last decade.

Why was “Jiyun Kaise” selected as the newest release for your project?

We had couple of songs in our bucket list but I thought “Jiyun Kaise” has his own class, and initially people will love it. As it has the decent amalgamation of Love and Pain. So we released it. We have much bigger plans for our next music singles.

When fans new and old have the opportunity to engage with your music, what do you hope they will take away from the experience?

It is written in a bit old sense, the classic sense yet music and the complete black backgrounds with specific focuses have given some sort of freshness to the song. I personally loved the music that plays behind the song in it. So, all the fans whether new or old should watch it and I am hopeful that they will love the feel the love in it.
